Breaking Bad Star RJ Mitte Dead at 34

RJ Mitte, the actor who portrayed Walter “Flynn” White Jr. On the landmark drama “Breaking Bad,” has died at 34.

A county official confirmed that Mitte died Monday in Texas. The outlet reported that the actor died by suicide.

Mitte became a familiar face to millions of viewers during the show’s five-season run from 2008 to 2013, playing the son of Bryan Cranston’s Walter White. His performance came from lived experience: Mitte had cerebral palsy, the same condition affecting his character, and he became an outspoken disability-rights advocate throughout and after his time on the series.

The actor’s personal life had recently turned toward new beginnings. Mitte announced his engagement to girlfriend Kennedy Suarez in October 2025, speaking warmly about their future together.

“I’m thrilled to have found my person, my partner in life who makes me want to be better, no matter what we’re doing,” he said at the time. “Kennedy is my everything and I can’t wait to officially start our life together and see what adventures life takes us on next.”

That interview marked one of Mitte’s final major public statements. The engagement came more than a decade after “Breaking Bad” concluded its acclaimed run, a period during which Mitte had continued acting while building his advocacy platform.

Born Roy Frank Mitte III, the actor was cast in “Breaking Bad” as a teenager after relocating to Los Angeles with his family. The role of Flynn White Jr. — a teenager navigating high school, his parents’ crumbling marriage, and his own physical challenges while unaware of his father’s drug empire — became his defining screen credit.

The show’s creator, Vince Gilligan, built the series around Cranston’s Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher turned methamphetamine manufacturer. Anna Gunn played Skyler White, the family matriarch, while Aaron Paul portrayed Jesse Pinkman, Walter’s former student and partner in crime. The ensemble earned numerous Emmy Awards during and after its run, with the series frequently cited among television’s greatest dramas.

Mitte’s casting stood out in an industry where disabled actors rarely played disabled characters. He spoke openly about using the platform to push for broader representation, and he continued that work through speaking engagements and public appearances long after the series finale.

His representatives confirmed his death to outlets on Monday. The circumstances reported drew immediate reaction across social media from fans and colleagues mourning the loss.

The actor’s final months had appeared focused on personal happiness. His engagement to Suarez, announced just months before his death, suggested a chapter of stability and forward momentum. No further statements from his family or representatives were immediately available regarding memorial arrangements.
