Sydney Sweeney went undercover at the Santa Monica Pier in a dark brown wig with bangs, and fans online could barely believe their eyes.
The “Euphoria” star, 29, credited the disguise to her friend Jayde Emory Hafner, who showed up with the hairpiece ready to go. Sweeney shared the outing in a series of social media snaps captioned, “when ur bestie shows up and says ‘here put this wig on’ 😂🥰.”

The pair hit the arcade, rode the attractions and grabbed chicken tenders and fries before relaxing in the sun. Sweeney dressed down in a Santa Monica souvenir T-shirt, denim shorts and white sneakers, though her accessories — huge diamond studs, $615 Bottega Veneta sunglasses and a bag from The Row — hinted at her celebrity status.

In one clip from the day, the actress took on the “Hang Time” challenge, hanging from a pull-up bar for a full minute.
Commenters on the post were quick to react to the transformation. “That you Hannah Montana?” one fan asked, referencing the Disney Channel character’s famous double life. Another wrote, “I didn’t even recognize her.”

Hafner’s husband joined in on the joke, commenting, “A couple of small town sisters on their big California vacation 🎡😆”

The brunette look was strictly temporary, according to Sweeney’s own caption, which framed the wig as a spontaneous best-friend stunt rather than any lasting change.

This was far from Sweeney’s first time experimenting with darker hair. She wore a brown mullet wig on the set of “Christy,” her upcoming film project, and sported a sleek black bob at the 2024 Met Gala. Her most dramatic real-life hair shift came last October, when she chopped her long blonde locks into a chin-length cut. The wavy blonde style has since grown back, making the pier outing a brief return to undercover brunette.
