Todd and Julie Chrisley Face $1.5 Million Tax Debt After Prison Pardon for Tax Evasion

Todd and Julie Chrisley are staring down a fresh $1.5 million federal tax lien just months after their prison release.

The Internal Revenue Service filed the $1,571,452 claim in Davidson County, Tennessee, on Aug. 19, according to records. The lien covers two separate unpaid assessments: $142,410.72 for the tax period ending Dec. 31, 2021, and $1,429,041.89 for the period ending Dec. 31, 2022. Those assessments were dated Dec. 5, 2022, and Dec. 11, 2023, respectively.

The new debt lands more than a year after President Donald Trump pardoned the couple in May 2025, cutting short Todd’s 12-year federal prison sentence and Julie’s seven-year term. The “Chrisley Knows Best” stars had been convicted in June 2022 of conspiring to defraud banks and evade federal taxes, accused of obtaining more than $36 million in fraudulent loans through falsified financial documents.

Todd, 57, reported to a federal prison camp in Pensacola, Florida, in January 2023. Julie, 53, began her sentence that same month at a federal correctional institution in Tallahassee, Florida. The couple spent more than two years apart before Trump’s pardon freed them and wiped out their supervised release requirements.

Their daughter Savannah Chrisley, 29, highlighted the irony of their prison activities during an October 2023 episode of her “Unlocked” podcast. She revealed that her father had taught a financial class behind bars.

“Dad’s definitely taught some classes too,” Savannah said at the time. “Which, how ironic?”

She added that one of the subjects was a financial class. During the same podcast, Savannah also disclosed that her mother taught a real estate class while incarcerated.

The pardons covered the federal offenses for which the couple had been convicted. The newly filed tax lien, however, documents separate unpaid federal tax assessments that predate and postdate their prison terms.

The couple has since returned to public life and now hosts the podcast “Chrisley Confessions 2.0.” Their original reality show, “Chrisley Knows Best,” ran for multiple seasons and chronicled their lavish lifestyle in Georgia, which prosecutors later argued was funded in part by the fraudulent loans they used to purchase luxury cars, designer clothes, real estate and travel.

Todd and Julie were sentenced in November 2022 following their June conviction. The case centered on allegations that they submitted fake bank statements and audit reports to financial institutions to secure tens of millions in loans, then concealed income from the IRS to avoid paying taxes.

The outlet has reached out to Todd and Julie for comment but did not receive a response.

The couple’s financial history includes multiple bankruptcy filings and accusations of hiding assets. Their 2022 trial featured testimony about their spending habits and financial maneuvering, which prosecutors said continued even as they claimed financial hardship to lenders.
