Blue Ivy, 14, Towers Over Mom Beyoncé at Houston Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

Blue Ivy Carter stood taller than her mother Beyoncé on stage at a Houston ribbon-cutting Tuesday.

The 14-year-old, alongside 9-year-old sister Rumi, joined Beyoncé, 45, grandmother Tina Knowles, and Destiny’s Child alum Kelly Rowland to celebrate the opening of the Knowles-Rowland House youth center. The family gathering marked Blue Ivy’s first public appearance in months, arriving just weeks after her surprise piano performance at Jay-Z’s Yankee Stadium concert in July.

Blue Ivy wore a jersey top with belted jeans and pumps, her curls pulled back in a ponytail. Beyoncé chose a tan dress for the occasion, while Rumi paired a black dress with a cardigan and sneakers.

The youth center’s transformation has been decades in the making. Originally opened as the Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth gymnasium in 1999, the facility was damaged by Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and then by a fire four years later. It now provides 31 supportive housing units for chronically homeless people.

The presence of Jay-Z, 56, and the twins’ brother Sir, 9, at Tuesday’s event was not confirmed by attendees.

Blue Ivy has stepped into the spotlight repeatedly throughout 2025. She made her Met Gala debut with Beyoncé in May, attended the Super Bowl with her father three months before that, and turned heads in Paris in April wearing a shirt printed with her own face. In June, she appeared in New York City sporting one of her mother’s signature hairstyles.

Her musical talents have drawn particular attention from her father. During a March interview with GQ, Jay-Z praised Blue Ivy’s “crazy” piano skills.

“She has perfect pitch,” he gushed at the time. “If she hears a song, she’ll be like, ‘Play it again,’ and then she’ll teach herself. That’s just talent.”

The record executive added that he and Beyoncé would not be able to “get [their daughter] off that stage” in the future.

Blue Ivy has already accumulated stage experience as a dancer on Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” and “Cowboy Carter” tours in recent years. Her July appearance at Jay-Z’s show celebrating the 30th anniversary of his “Reasonable Doubt” album saw her accompany him on piano for his 1996 track “Feelin’ It.”

The Houston youth center opening brought together multiple generations of the Knowles family with Rowland, Beyoncé’s longtime collaborator. The facility’s new mission focuses on housing stability for one of Texas’s most vulnerable populations.

While Rumi and Sir primarily remain outside public view, Blue Ivy’s increasing visibility suggests a gradual emergence from the carefully guarded privacy that has surrounded the Carter children since birth in January 2012.
