Jon Gosselin has issued a public warning defending his son Collin against renewed mental-health allegations from ex-wife Kate Gosselin.
The former “Jon and Kate Plus 8” star, 49, said in a statement Thursday that he “couldn’t be more proud” of Collin’s new memoir, “In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood,” which was released Tuesday. Jon framed his response around legal accountability rather than family drama, directly addressing comments Kate had posted to TikTok earlier that same day.
“First and foremost, I couldn’t be more proud of my son’s heartbreaking memoir and his mission to help other victims of abuse,” Jon said in his statement. He then pivoted to a sterner message aimed at his ex-wife.
“Also, let me be very clear: If you continue to falsely label my son Collin as ‘mentally ill,’ you will be held accountable,” he continued. “As you know, Collin has been evaluated by multiple independent psychiatrists, and that narrative is proven categorically untrue.”

Jon emphasized that repeating such claims carries real consequences for the 22-year-old’s future. Repeating false claims about Collin’s mental health is “damaging to his reputation, his credibility and his future,” he noted.

He closed his statement with an unmistakable threat of litigation: “Consider this fair warning: The days of using mental health to discredit and silence my son are over.”

Kate, 51, had taken to TikTok on Tuesday to push back against Collin’s book. When a supporter called Collin’s claims “terrible lies” and wrote that “it should be illegal to defame someone” in a memoir, Kate responded directly in the comments.
“Rational logical [people] or anyone who has dealt with mental illness understands what’s going on here,” she wrote. She also “liked” a follow-up comment alleging that Collin would “regret all of this someday” and that he was “encouraged and enabled by other dysfunctional and mentally ill people.”

Collin, meanwhile, is weighing his own legal options. He exclusively said on Tuesday that he’s considering filing a police report against his mother over the alleged abuse documented in his book.

“I have the grounds to do so,” Collin said. “And this justice is very important to me for all children to know that they should absolutely fight and they should actually look into what has been done to them and never stop fighting it.”

The memoir itself pulls few punches. Collin alleges that Kate kept him locked in “a small holding” cell for two years before sending him away to a mental institution at age 12, cutting him off from his siblings. He claims she visited him only once during that institutionalization, delivering four words he has not forgotten: “You broke our family.”
The book also describes a childhood governed by rigid on-camera performance. Collin writes that Kate forced all eight children — fellow sextuplets Alexis, Aaden, Leah, Joel and Hannah, plus twins Cara and Madelyn, now 25 — to maintain a polished image for TLC cameras. Discipline came swiftly and severely.
“If we got even the littlest bit of dirt on our clothes, we’d be stripped down and punished,” he writes.

The dueling statements mark the latest escalation in a long-fractured family dynamic that has played out publicly since the couple’s 2009 divorce. Jon’s Thursday statement represents his most forceful intervention yet in Collin’s public campaign to reframe the narrative of his childhood.
