Taylor Swift debuted her “Life of a Showgirl” single live at the 2026 Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday.
The 36-year-old pop superstar closed the star-studded evening with a performance of “The Fate of Ophelia,” the track she released last year, before running through her 2008 classic “Love Story” and her newly minted contribution to “Toy Story 5,” titled “I Knew It, I Knew You.” She took the stage backed by backup singers and saxophonists at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, having traded her earlier red-carpet look for a sparkling navy blue Ralph Lauren gown. The strapless designer dress featured a semi-sheer tulle skirt, and Swift paired it with Cartier jewelry, black heels, her signature red lip, and her blond hair styled down in curls.

Swift’s appearance at the gala had been locked in since Oct. 8, when the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures named her as a performer in a press release. Academy Museum Director and President Amy Homma praised the “Lover” singer in the announcement.
“We are thrilled to welcome her to this year’s gala and look forward to her performance to close a wonderful evening of honoring three extraordinary filmmakers and supporting the Academy Museum’s mission to celebrate and preserve cinema,” Homma wrote.

Homma described Swift as “an extraordinary talent whose work resonates around the world.”

The evening’s honorees were Oscar winner Charlize Theron, horror legend and filmmaker John Carpenter, and Oscar nominee Colman Domingo. The guest list packed in Kim Kardashian, Jessica Alba, Kirsten Dunst, Kate Hudson, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, Demi Moore, Teyana Taylor, and Olivia Munn among the A-list attendees.

Swift arrived solo. Her husband, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, was set to face the Los Angeles Chargers with his teammates at Arrowhead Stadium in Missouri on Sunday.

Before taking the stage, Swift made her entrance on the red carpet in a different blue gown entirely: a strapless Dior dress crafted from pleated silk and accented with a beaded bow. She completed what observers called a Cinderella-like look with Aquazzura shoes and Chopard jewelry, including 32.40-carat diamond earrings.

The quick change kept her palette firmly in the romantic-blue family for the night, shifting from Dior’s pleated silk to Ralph Lauren’s sparkling tulle without straying from the color story.

The gala marked the first time Swift had performed “The Fate of Ophelia” before a live audience, adding another live debut to a year that has already seen her dominate charts and screens. Her “Toy Story 5” track “I Knew It, I Knew You” arrived as her newest release, slotted into a set list that bridged nearly two decades of her catalog.

Swift’s solo attendance underscored the scheduling collision between her Hollywood night and Kelce’s football obligations, with the couple continuing to navigate dual high-profile careers on opposite coasts.
