Marc Singer is recovering after a weekend health scare sent him to a Los Angeles hospital.
The 78-year-old actor, best known for playing Dar in the “Beastmaster” film franchise and Mike Donovan in the 1980s sci-fi series “V,” experienced sudden pain at his Los Angeles-area home on Saturday. Paramedics arrived shortly after 2 p.m. And transported him for medical evaluation.
Doctors ran tests and kept Singer overnight for observation. His tests came back clear, and he was released from the hospital on Sunday.

Singer’s career spans decades of film and television work beyond his most iconic roles. He appeared in “Roots: The Next Generations,” the action film “Agent Recon,” the drama “If You Could See What I Hear,” and the primetime soap “Dallas,” among numerous other credits.

In a 2024 interview with AV Club, Singer reflected on how his stage background in Shakespeare helped land him his breakthrough film role. “The writer/director Don Coscarelli had seen my performance in that, and he said, ‘That’s the guy I want to play Dar!’ So there was really no casting. There was just a meeting,” he recalled.

“We met, and we had a conversation and, man, we got right at it!” Singer added. “And the next thing I knew, I was being fitted for my little leather hula skirt, and off we went into the desert again.”

The experience left a lasting impression on the veteran performer. He said he made “some lifelong friends” and “developed [his] appreciation for filmic history” while filming the fantasy movie series.
“You never know how much life there is in a project and how much more life there might be yet. So I look forward to more of that, if there’s more to say!” he shared.

Singer’s rep has not responded to requests for comment on his current condition.
