Luke Bryan’s son suffers terrifying injury during high school football game

Bo Bryan has spoken out after suffering a gruesome collarbone injury during a high school football game in Tennessee.

The 18-year-old quarterback, son of country star Luke Bryan, 50, was hurt last Friday while playing for Battle Ground Academy in Franklin. He landed on his right shoulder after taking a sack and was diagnosed with a broken collarbone just hours later.

Bo revealed the injury on Instagram Saturday, thanking everyone for their “thoughts and prayers.” He also spoke to the Tennessean about the moment he realized the damage was serious. Speaking to the local outlet, he recalled thinking he had a “stinger,” but once he got off the field, he “really knew that something was wrong.”

The injury comes during an impressive senior season for Bo. He has led Battle Ground Academy to a 6-1 record in his first full year as starting quarterback, the Tennessean reported.

His father has been vocal about watching that development unfold. “I’m super impressed,” Luke said Sports in September. “This being against a big rival during his senior year, he’s learning as he goes.”

The “Country Girl” singer continued, “Everything that happens to him this year is the first time he’s had all these pressure situations, all the ups and downs. He came out, we got behind and he threw a pick that turned into points for them.”

Luke also praised his son’s athletic journey in the same interview. “Bo is really young in his development as a quarterback because he’s been a two- or three-sport athlete his whole life,” he said. “The fact that he’s been able to really turn the corner as a quarterback has been amazing to see.”

Bo is the oldest of Luke and wife Caroline Boyer’s two sons. The couple also shares Tatum Christopher Bryan, 16. Beyond their immediate children, Luke and Caroline adopted Bryan’s two nieces and nephew after the death of his brother-in-law, Ben Lee Cheshire, in 2014. Luke’s sister, Kelly, had already died in 2007.

The Bryan family has faced significant loss over the years. The adoption of the three children came after Luke’s sister passed away in 2007, followed by her husband’s death seven years later. Luke and Caroline took in their nephew and two nieces, expanding their family beyond their two biological sons.

Bo’s football career has now hit an unexpected obstacle with the broken collarbone. The timing is particularly notable given his senior year and the momentum his team had built through seven games.
