Ilhan Omar Court Documents Reveal Two Clues About Federal Case Against Squad Representative

Court filings by US Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s office reveal the federal search warrant executed at Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington home may still be active.

Pirro’s team wrote Wednesday that “good cause exists to extend these deadlines until after the subject search warrant has been fully executed,” signaling investigators believe additional work remains after agents raided the Democrat’s residence at dawn on Oct. 12. The filing did not specify what elements are outstanding or when execution might conclude.

The timing of the raid, less than a month before the Nov. 3 election, intensified scrutiny of the Minnesota congresswoman’s immigration history. Omar, who came to the United States as a refugee from Somalia in the mid-1990s, obtained citizenship through her father’s naturalization in 2000 when records listed her as 17 years old. The probe is reportedly examining whether she was actually 18 at that time, which could have affected her eligibility.

The court documents also surfaced the alias “Nur Said Elmi,” linking Omar to her former husband Ahmed Nur Said Elmi in federal records. Elmi and Omar were legally married from 2009 to 2017, a union that has long fueled unproven speculation on Somali forums that he was her brother and that the marriage was arranged for immigration benefits.

Omar, 41, has forcefully rejected the brother-marriage theory. She called it “insane” and dismissed it as a right-wing conspiracy. She previously stated that she and Elmi separated “in our faith tradition” in 2011, though the legal dissolution took years longer.

When pressed by MS NOW about any biological relationship to Elmi, Omar hedged. “Not to my knowledge,” she said.

The congresswoman’s marital timeline also includes Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi, whom she said in a 2016 statement that she attempted to marry in 2002 at age 19, though they “never finalized the application and thus were never legally married.” She and Hirsi later formalized their relationship in 2018, divorcing a year later.

Pirro’s office has fought to keep warrant documents sealed against pressure from more than a dozen media outlets that petitioned the US District Court for the District of Columbia last Thursday. The government cited the incomplete execution as grounds for continued secrecy.

The investigation has reportedly expanded to include Omar’s relatives. Federal investigators have issued subpoenas to family members and interviewed her sister as the probe intensifies, according to sources familiar with the matter.

President Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan has publicly hinted at additional enforcement steps targeting Omar, though specifics remain unclear.

Omar’s defense attorney, Todd Blanche, addressed reporters Thursday about the alias in court records. “I don’t think that [US Attorneys] would make up names,” he said when asked about “Nur Said Elmi” appearing in federal documents.

The Post previously reported that federal investigators possess DNA evidence they believe could demonstrate immigration fraud, with one source suggesting it might establish Elmi as Omar’s brother. Such a finding would undermine her prior denials and raise questions about the legitimacy of her former marriage.

Omar has consistently denied any wrongdoing. She has accused the Trump administration of weaponizing the legal system against her for political purposes, framing the investigation as retaliation for her outspoken progressive politics as a member of the “Squad.”

The congresswoman sought to rally support following the raid, appearing in a video asking for campaign contributions. A body language expert consulted by the Post analyzed the footage, concluding she displayed signs of “deception” during the appeal.

Federal agents’ predawn arrival at Omar’s DC residence marked a dramatic escalation in a long-simmering controversy over her past. The investigation now spans multiple threads: her age at naturalization, her marriage to Elmi, and potential misrepresentations on official documents. With the warrant still active and relatives drawn into investigators’ orbit, the case appears far from resolution.

Omar is scheduled to appear at a campaign rally in Minneapolis next week as she seeks reelection.
