Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Deemed Lavish Wedding Props Too Expensive and Dangerous for $30M Nuptials

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce cut a two-tiered carousel and a man-made pond from their $30 million Madison Square Garden wedding after both props proved impractical, a source said on Monday.

The carousel alone would have cost $7 million, according to the insider, and even scaling it back to a single story still carried a $3.5 million price tag that the couple, Swift, 36, and Kelce, 37, decided was too steep. In its place, guests found a large tent stocked with carnival games including corn-hole and mini-golf when the pair married on July 3.

The pond beneath the altar met a different fate. The source said it was scrapped because “the edges weren’t tall enough and it would be really easy to fall over,” making the feature too dangerous and requiring more engineering than the venue could accommodate.

Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, has spoken publicly about the wedding only once, during an interview two months after the fact. He called it the “best night of my life.”

“Marrying Taylor was more than I could have ever dreamed it to be,” he said during that broadcast. He added that his personal highlight was “all the people that showed up, and the amount of love that was in the air.”

The guest list numbered roughly 1,000 and included Selena Gomez, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Mariska Hargitay and Ed Sheeran. Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony, where Swift wore a Christian Dior Haute Couture gown. An eyewitness said last month that the transformed arena became “a spectacle” with food stations, bars and those replacement carnival games.

The morning after, photographers captured workers wheeling out the decor: custom monogrammed items, trees, large green furnishings from a “big gazebo,” orange armchairs, cocktail tables, green chairs and a chest holding “games.”

The beverage program featured three named cocktails — “The Gym Teacher,” “The English Teacher” and “The T&T” — each with its own signature ice cube. The food menu included lobster, chicken and French fries.

The July 3 date fell on a Thursday, and the couple has not publicly disclosed honeymoon plans or whether they will hold additional celebrations. Representatives for both Swift and Kelce did not respond to requests for comment from the outlet.

The carousel and pond were not the only elaborate elements considered for the MSG ceremony. The “ethereal garden” aesthetic that ultimately replaced them required its own significant installation and removal operation, as evidenced by the next-day cleanup visible outside the Manhattan venue.
