Female Teacher Caught Sexting a Student Pleads Guilty and Is Banned From Teaching in the US for Life

Rachel Clement, 29, has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a student and will never teach in the United States again.

The former Henderson County High School teacher entered her pleas before Henderson Circuit Judge Karen Wilson on Monday, admitting to two counts of first-degree sexual abuse with a position of authority or special trust and one count of tampering with physical evidence. The Kentucky educator had initially pleaded not guilty at her arraignment in June, but prosecutors amended her charges as part of the negotiated agreement.

Henderson County Commonwealth’s Attorney Herb McKee Jr. Said he consulted with the victim, the teenager’s family, Henderson Police Department detectives and the school district before finalizing the deal. “We believe the evidence fit those charges,” he said.

The plea agreement carries lifetime consequences for Clement. She is permanently barred from teaching anywhere in the US and must register as a sex offender on the national sex registry for life. She is also forbidden from any contact with her victim, the student’s family and the Henderson County school district.

Clement was removed from Henderson County High School in May after officials received a report about her conduct and contacted law enforcement. Her teaching contract expired the following month, and she remains banned from all school district property.

The case originated with sexually explicit text messages Clement sent to the student, according to The Hendersonian. The initial investigation launched in May led to charges of unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual or other prohibited activities, first-degree sexual abuse and tampering with physical evidence.

Prosecutors dropped the original first-degree sexual abuse charge and the electronic inducement counts in exchange for the guilty pleas. Clement had been scheduled to stand trial last Friday before reaching the agreement.

Each sexual abuse conviction carries a maximum sentence of three years, while the evidence tampering charge could add five years. Clement will learn her punishment when she returns to court for sentencing.

She is set to be sentenced on Jan. 4, 2027, according to online court records.
