A wild fight at a 12-year-old’s softball game was caught on video and led to arrests

Kiarious Marshun Hall claimed self-defense after a water-bottle attack at a Texas youth softball game left a father with a fractured skull and brain bleeds, but investigators say video footage contradicts his account.

The 12-year-old girls’ game at Imperial Park in Sugar Land last weekend turned violent when Hall, whose daughter was playing, allegedly began cheering during the opposing team’s at-bats. A man from the Timbergrove Thunder team approached Hall and told him he “couldn’t cheer before the players pitched the ball,” according to police and court records Eyewitness News.

Hall allegedly responded with a metal water bottle to the man’s face, knocking him unconscious. The father was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital with a broken jaw, fractured skull and three brain bleeds, his lawyer Steve Shellist said.

Gary Greaser, a grandfather who witnessed the initial strike, attempted to intervene. “I said ‘You can’t do this.’ I took him, I wanted to disarm the guy, because he’s going to do it to somebody else,” Greaser said.

Greaser described the moments leading to the explosion. “We’re saying ‘Hey, why are you getting loud?’ It’s bad sportsmanship to do it right as the pitch comes up when our girls are batting, and that’s all it took. He just flipped and said, ‘I can do whatever I want, I can say whatever I want. And you can’t stop me.'”

Hall then allegedly struck Greaser as well. Court records indicate Jazmine Hall, Marshun’s wife, pushed Greaser before both of them tumbled into bushes. Bystanders eventually separated the combatants. Greaser required seven stitches on his chin and suffered a broken hip plus several scrapes.

Sugar Land police arrested both Halls after the brawl. They were booked at Fort Bend County Jail, with Marshun Hall charged with assault causing bodily injury.

Jazmine Hall voluntarily reported the incident to Lamar CISD’s human resources department over the weekend, according to a district statement. She resigned Monday from her position as assistant principal at Lamar Junior High School. “Lamar CISD is aware of the incident involving a Lamar Junior High School employee,” the district said. “The employee voluntarily reported the incident to the district’s human resources department over the weekend. The incident occurred outside of school and was not associated with any Lamar CISD-sponsored event or activity.”

Marshun Hall has maintained to investigators that he acted in self-defense after being “elbowed and poked” in the chest. Court documents explicitly state the video did not support that claim.

The injured father remains hospitalized. The incident remains under investigation by Sugar Land authorities.
