Carson Daly Lands Major New Role on ‘Today’ Show

“I’m thrilled to add ‘Saturday Today’ to my weekday morning schedule,” Daly said in a statement. “My kids asked if I’ll still make pancakes. I told them yes, but I’ll be making them for Laura, Joe and Angie instead,” he joked. “I’m equal parts grateful and excited for this opportunity.”

Libby Leist, executive vice president of Today and Lifestyle, praised the move in her own statement. “Carson has been an integral part of the ‘Today’ family for the past 13 years, and we are thrilled that our viewers get to spend one more day of the week with him,” she said. “Carson and Laura make a great team, and we can’t wait for this fresh new chapter of ‘Saturday Today,'” she added.

The Saturday program runs from 7:00 a.m. To 9:00 a.m. ET. Daly’s addition marks a significant shift for the weekend broadcast, pairing him with Jarrett as co-anchors while Fryer serves as feature anchor and Lassman handles weather.

Daly’s NBC tenure stretches back to 2013, when he first joined “Today” to host the Orange Room. In that digital-focused role, he bridged the gap between the broadcast and its online audience. His PopStart segment has since become a regular fixture, covering entertainment news and celebrity interviews across music, sports and Hollywood.

Before his NBC career, Daly spent five years as the face of MTV’s “Total Request Live,” hosting from the show’s 1998 launch until his 2003 departure. The program made him a household name and defined an era of music television. He later transitioned to late-night with NBC’s “Last Call with Carson Daly,” which ran for 18 seasons before ending in 2019.

His return to a regular hosting chair on Saturday mornings comes as he maintains one of television’s busier schedules. Daly continues to host and executive produce NBC’s “The Voice,” the singing competition now in its later seasons. He also executive produces “The Voice: Celebrity,” an upcoming spinoff that will be hosted by Keke Palmer.

The pancake joke in Daly’s statement nods at his well-documented family life, though he kept the focus on his new colleagues. His children have occasionally appeared in his social media over the years, offering glimpses of his off-air routine.

NBC has not announced any further changes to the “Saturday Today” lineup beyond Daly’s arrival. The current team of Jarrett, Fryer and Lassman had been carrying the broadcast prior to this addition.
