Kimmarie Johnson has died at age 50, her family confirmed Thursday.
The “Beverly Hills, 90210” actress passed away Wednesday afternoon at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, according to her niece Rhonda Scott. Johnson, 50, had been hospitalized since Oct. 27 after a medical emergency at her home.
Scott said that her aunt suffered a “heart event” at the Los Angeles residence on that Sunday. Emergency responders rushed Johnson to Cedars-Sinai, where physicians diagnosed her with what Scott described as a “heart aneurysm condition.”

Johnson died peacefully after her heart stopped beating, Scott said. The niece did not specify whether Johnson remained hospitalized for days or if she had returned home before her death.
Johnson appeared on the iconic Fox teen drama “Beverly Hills, 90210,” which ran from 1990 to 2000 and launched the careers of Luke Perry, Shannen Doherty, Jason Priestley and Tori Spelling. The series followed a group of wealthy California high school students and became a defining pop-culture phenomenon of the decade.

The show experienced renewed attention in recent years following a 2019 reboot, “BH90210,” and the deaths of several original cast members. Luke Perry died in 2019 at 52 following a massive stroke. Shannen Doherty, who played Brenda Walsh, died in July at 53 after years of battling breast cancer.
Johnson’s death marks another loss connected to the franchise that defined 1990s television for a generation of viewers. Beyond her “90210” appearance, she built a career in film and television spanning multiple decades.
Details about Johnson’s specific role on “Beverly Hills, 90210” remained limited in initial reports. Her other credits included appearances across film and television projects throughout her working life in Hollywood.
Scott, speaking on behalf of the family, provided the initial confirmation of Johnson’s death to media outlets. The niece described the circumstances surrounding the hospitalization and the actress’s final moments.
The “heart aneurysm condition” diagnosis cited by Scott refers to a serious cardiovascular issue involving a weakened, bulging area in the wall of a heart artery. Such conditions can lead to rupture or other life-threatening complications requiring immediate medical intervention.
Johnson’s Oct. 27 emergency and subsequent hospitalization preceded her death by several days. The timeline suggests she received intensive care following the initial heart event at her home.
The actress’s passing adds to a somber year for entertainment industry losses, with multiple performers from beloved 1990s properties dying in 2024. The concentration of deaths among that era’s stars has prompted periodic waves of nostalgia and grief from longtime fans on social media platforms.
Scott did not immediately announce funeral arrangements or memorial plans for her aunt. The family appears to be in early stages of processing the loss while confirming details publicly.
Johnson worked in Hollywood during a period when opportunities for Black actresses remained limited, making her sustained career across multiple decades notable within the industry landscape she navigated.
