Katy Perry has finally broken her silence on a decade-old conspiracy theory that claims she is actually JonBenét Ramsey.
The “Firework” singer, 41, responded after an AI-generated video showing the murdered child beauty pageant contestant morphing into the pop star began circulating online. Perry’s reaction was characteristically brief: she simply wrote “wait am i” upon seeing the clip, according to her social media post.

The theory that Perry and Ramsey are the same person has persisted for more than ten years, gaining renewed traction with the recent AI video that highlighted supposed physical similarities between the two. Internet users have pointed to matching bone structures in their eyebrows, jaws, and noses as supposed proof of the connection.
The conspiracy first went viral in 2014, when a seven-minute YouTube video titled “JonBenét Ramsey is singer Katy Perry” racked up views with a string of unsubstantiated claims. That video, which has since been deleted, alleged that Perry’s parents were actually John and Patsy Ramsey and that JonBenét’s death was staged to allow her to eventually become famous.
Perry’s own words from years earlier have been repeatedly cited by theorists as a supposed hidden admission. In a 2011 Vanity Fair interview, she reportedly said: “Not that I was one of those stage kids. There was no JonBenét Ramsey inside of me waiting to burst out.”
Theorists have seized on this comment as evidence of a secret identity, interpreting it as a deliberate hint rather than the straightforward denial of pageant-girl roots that it appears to be.
On X in 2022, one user wrote: “Before we end 2022 I just wanna say that JonBenet Ramsey is actually Katy Perry…”
Another user on the same platform attempted to legitimize the claim with a detailed thread, writing: “Why we know that Katy Perry is JonBenét Ramsey, a thread.”

The conspiracy persists despite multiple facts that directly contradict it. Perry was born in 1984 in California to parents Mary Christine Perry and Maurice Keith Hudson, making her five years older than JonBenét, who was born in August 1990 in Atlanta, Georgia. Boulder police have also confirmed that JonBenét died in December 1996.
The six-year-old was found dead in the basement of her parents’ Boulder, Colorado home around Christmas that year. An autopsy determined she died by strangulation, with a homemade garrote discovered nearby. The case has remained unsolved for nearly three decades, with JonBenét’s family consistently denying any involvement in her death despite persistent speculation.
Some theorists believe the Ramsey family was involved in the killing, while others, like the Perry conspiracy adherents, claim the child never died at all.

The AI-generated video represents the latest evolution of a theory that has adapted to new technology and platforms over the years, finding fresh audiences with each iteration. Perry’s recent acknowledgment of the conspiracy marks one of the few times she has directly engaged with the claim, though her sarcastic response suggests little patience for the speculation.
