Why Jane Seymour Refuses to Leave Malibu Despite Multiple Emergency Evacuations

Jane Seymour has ruled out leaving Malibu despite repeated wildfire evacuations.

The 75-year-old actress, who has lived in the coastal Southern California city for more than three decades, said in an exclusive interview that she has no plans to relocate regardless of how many times disaster forces her out.

“No,” Seymour said when asked if she has ever considered leaving. “It’s the most beautiful place and the community here is wonderful.”

Seymour purchased her 6,326-square-foot oceanfront estate for $3.4 million in 1994. The property has narrowly escaped destruction multiple times, including during a December 2024 wildfire that forced her to evacuate with only the clothes on her back and a few keepsakes.

“I hope and pray that my house will be here for a very long time,” she explained. “And I think we’ve personally been through at least half a dozen fires. I’m incredibly grateful to the fire department that ultimately helped us as well. When you live in a place that’s close to nature, you just have to have respect for it.”

The “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman” star has taken extensive preventive measures to protect her property from the region’s recurring fire danger. She removed vegetation that could ignite and consulted directly with fire officials about safeguarding the estate.

“Quite a long time ago, I ripped out everything in my garden that was not going to be drought healthy and also that would not ignite,” she noted. “I’ve been really, really careful about all that, and I had the fire department here telling me what I should and shouldn’t do, and I did everything I possibly could do, but it’s also the luck of the draw.”

Seymour, who is engaged to musician and ER physician John Zambetti, has also installed fire protection infrastructure on the grounds. “I have fire hydrants,” she said. “We have a system from the pool. We do what we can, but I do love it here.”

The actress emphasized that the rewards of living in Malibu outweigh the risks she has repeatedly faced. “I honestly travel the world, and there is something magical about where we live and the community we’re in,” she continued. “And I’ve been here a very long time, and I will always support this community.”

When not managing her estate or evacuating from fires, Seymour has focused on her QVC jewelry line, Soul to Soul. The lab-grown diamond collection launched November 6 and features sterling silver earrings, pendant necklaces, rings and bangles.

“It’s not just a piece of jewelry,” Seymour said of the line. “It’s not about just a carat weight or whether it’s gold or yellow gold or silver. It has an enormous amount of meaning.”

She tied the collection’s purpose to advice from her mother, a World War II survivor. “Like my mother had said, having survived World War II, that everyone in life has challenges,” Seymour continued. “And when they do, they close up their heart, and if they could open their heart, they could accept.”

“Reach out to help someone else. There will always be someone worse off than them, and they’ll have purpose,” she added. “So this represents an enormous amount. Being able to do it with QVC, I’m able to tell the story, and the story is a very big part of it.”
