These “Element” Crayons Help Kids Learn The Periodic Table As They Color

Let’s face it — memorizing the elements in the Periodic table can be tough. You might remember one mom used the classic game of Battleship to teach her kids chemistry.

Now, Etsy shop Que Interesante has created crayons that teach kids all about the periodic table.

Each chemical has its color determined by a “flame test”, which is then matched to a crayon of that same color — a label tells the child which element the crayon represents.

For example, when Lithium is put under the flame test, it has a red flame, so it’s coupled with a crayon of the same color.

Similarly, Barium emits a green blaze and is matched accordingly.

Que Interesante hopes children will learn passively about elements by being exposed to the names as they color.

Sets of 24, 96, and 120 labels are available for $3, $12, $15 USD, respectively, from the Etsy shop.
