So it’s important that the radiation stays firmly inside the microwave instead of zapping people standing nearby. But how can you tell whether your microwave is leaky or not?
An eye-opening video from YouTube channel Physics Girl reveals a clever trick to test your microwave’s leakiness.
All you need to do is place your phone inside your microwave and close the door.
If the microwave is working properly, you shouldn’t be able to call the phone because the waves wouldn’t be able to penetrate the door. But if your phone does ring when it’s inside the microwave, it could mean your appliance is leaky.
However, there are some exceptions so make sure you watch the video.
But don’t worry, even if your appliance is leaky, it’s unlikely that the escaping radiation will actually do you any real harm. Apparently.
