This Old Children’s Logic Puzzle Has The Internet Baffled. Can You Solve It?

There’s (yet) another brain teaser sweeping the Internet, but this one — thought to be from an old children’s magazine — is proving almost impossible to work out.

Here’s the image you’re given:

Now you just need to answer these “simple” questions:

  1. How many tourists are staying at the camp?
  2. When did they arrive: today or a few days ago?
  3. How did they get to the camp?
  4. How far away is the closest town?
  5. Where is the wind blowing from: north or south?
  6. What time of day is it?
  7. Where did Alex go?
  8. Who was on duty yesterday?
  9. What day is it today?

Scroll down for answers after you’re done beating your brain.

Okay, here you go:

  1. There are four spoons on the blanket and four names on the list so there are four happy campers.
  2. A spider’s web has appeared between the tent and the tree so they arrived a few days ago.
  3. You can see oars so they must’ve arrive by boat.
  4. The wandering chicken suggests a village is nearby (vague, we know).
  5. Apparently, branches on the southern side of trees are generally longer (if you’re in the northern hemisphere), so from the flag you know the wind is blowing north.
  6. See above and use the shadows to work out that it’s morning.
  7. Alex is catching butterflies — you can see his net behind the tent.
  8. It’s Colin (he’s looking in a backpack marked “C”); Alex is catching butterflies, James is taking pictures and Peter must have been on duty yesterday.
  9. It’s August 8th, as Peter is on duty and apparently everyone knows watermelons ripen in August.

How did you get on? We’ll happily admit we were completely stumped.
