Salina Turda in Turda, Romania has been used as a salt mine since the 17th century, carving out 3 billion tons of salt and delving hundreds of feet underground, and now it’s an otherworldly theme park.
Featuring a Ferris wheel, bowling alley, mini golf, amphitheatre and ping pong tables (weirdly), it might not offer the high-octane thrills of rollercoasters…
… but the eerie subterranean landscape, accessed via a labyrinth of elevators and stairs, has to be seen to be believed.
Its owners claim the microclimate offers health benefits to visitors and features like this underground boating lake draw over 600,000 visitors a year.
Since the end of its salt mining days, Salina Turda has been used as a bomb shelter during World War II and even a cheese storage facility (because cheese is VERY important).
This strange underground world is definitely getting added to our list of must-see locations.
You can find out more at the Salina Turda website.
