People in Britain have been captivated by a live stream of, er, a puddle, with almost 20,000 people tuning in to watch pedestrians attempting to cross it.
Staff at a marketing agency had been watching people cross the puddle from their office in Newcastle and set up a live stream on Periscope for others to watch.
Things really started to kick off when a cheeky man placed a “Slippery when wet” sign in the puddle.

Then this guy turned up with an inflatable lilo to traverse the vast urban ocean.
He lived to tweet the tale of his daring crossing.

Another inspired Georgie took a surfboard to the treacherous seas.
At its peak, almost 20,000 people were watching the puddle live.

And there were still 17,000 watchers when the stream ended yesterday at 5:15pm.
Richard Rippon, social media manager of the agency streaming the puddle, said, “People have it up on their screens as if it’s a big sporting event. It’s brilliant.”
