Adam Sandler shares ‘unexpected’ reason for his baggy clothing style

Adam Sandler has long been a fashion icon, known for his effortless and distinctive outfits from the early 1990s to today, which continue to influence street style.

According to GQ Magazine, a ‘Sandler fit’ is characterized by being ‘sloppily swaggy’ or ‘blithely incongruous’.

Imagine bright basketball shorts matched with oversized striped polo shirts, comfortable bowling shirts with sporty jackets, and brand new sneakers, such as the Nike Sabrina 3 ‘Blueprint’ that Sandler wore during the Happy Gilmore 2 press tour.

While Sandler, often referred to as ‘The Sandman’, has carefully developed his personal style over the years, his preference for loose clothing is not solely due to a love for comfort.

In an interview with the Pardon My Take podcast, Sandler revealed why he began opting for baggy clothes.

“The baggy stuff for the young Adam Sandler started for a reason,” the Grown Ups star explained.

“I used to be – and this is not a lie – jacked. I was jacked, I [had a] beautiful body so when I would hide it and then surprise you at the beach when this stuff came off.”

“It would be like ‘The Sandman’s ripped? I didn’t know that’. Now, I go loose because it should be hidden.”

Sandler has returned to the spotlight with the release of Happy Gilmore 2, a Netflix film filled with cameos that came out 29 years after the original.

Directed by Kyle Newacheck, the comedy features Sandler reprising his role as Happy Gilmore, now a widowed alcoholic and former golfer who returns to the sport to fund his daughter’s overseas ballet education.

The sequel boasts a star-studded cast, including Ben Stiller, Benny Safdie, and Bad Bunny, with surprise cameos from Eminem, WWE star Becky Lynch, and professional golfer Nelly Korda.

Additionally, Sandler used the sequel to honor the late Cameron Boyce, a former Disney Channel star.

Boyce, who appeared in Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2, passed away at the age of 20 due to epilepsy complications.

In a scene from the new Netflix movie, Boyce’s image is shown on a television screen, which fans believe is a clip from the Disney Channel series Jessie.

In the scene, Boyce is seen wearing a blue shirt and holding binoculars.

This marks the second time Sandler has paid tribute to Boyce, following 2020’s Hubie Halloween, which was intended to star Boyce before his passing. Sandler included a statement in the film: “In loving memory of CAMERON BOYCE.”

“Gone way too soon and one of the kindest, coolest, funniest, and most talented kids we knew. You live on forever in our hearts and are truly missed every day.”

Happy Gilmore 2 is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
