Adam Sandler’s Greatest Films Ranked as Happy Gilmore 2 Arrives on Netflix

Nearly three decades after Happy Gilmore made its debut, the much-anticipated sequel has finally arrived.

Adam Sandler, a staple in the film industry since the 1980s, became a household name largely due to the success of Happy Gilmore.

The film, which premiered in February 1996, features stars such as Modern Family’s Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, and the late Carl Weathers, who passed away last year at the age of 76.

Bowen and McDonald have returned to their iconic roles of Virginia and Shooter in this eagerly awaited follow-up, accompanied by a fresh ensemble of well-known personalities in Happy Gilmore 2.

Notable additions include Travis Kelce, Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, and Ben Stiller, showcasing Sandler’s knack for attracting big names to his projects.

Given that the original Happy Gilmore has a devoted fanbase, millions are expected to head to Netflix today (July 25) to catch Sandler’s new sequel.

Sandler’s career is marked by numerous beloved classics, but which films stand out the most? To celebrate the release of Happy Gilmore 2, UNILAD RANKED consulted Netflix Bangers for opinions, and the results have been tallied…

Consider the allure of being famous and gathering your closest friends to create a comedy film—this is essentially the premise of Grown Ups.

As he frequently does, Sandler recruited friends Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, and Rob Schneider for the 2010 movie.

The film’s star power extends with the inclusion of Maya Rudolph, Salma Hayek, and Steve Buscemi.

For those familiar with the film, its storyline mirrors what might happen if Rock, James, Spade, Sandler, and Schneider embarked on a family vacation together.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the synopsis for Grown Ups reads: “The death of their childhood basketball coach leads to a reunion for some old friends (Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock), who gather at the site of a championship celebration years earlier. Picking up where they left off, the buddies – with wives and children in tow – discover why age does not, necessarily, equal maturity.”

Despite its modest 10 percent rating on the review platform, Grown Ups received eight percent of the votes in our poll.

The film is available for streaming on Prime Video.

Drew Barrymore and Sandler teamed up for The Wedding Singer, marking their first collaboration.

Set in the 1980s, Sandler portrays Robbie, a wedding singer left heartbroken after being abandoned at the altar.

Julia (Barrymore) enlists Robbie’s help in organizing her wedding, but he soon falls for her and tries to disrupt her wedding plans.

While The Wedding Singer also achieved eight percent in our poll, it boasts a significantly higher score on Rotten Tomatoes, with an 80 percent Audience Score.

This 1990s classic is available for streaming on Prime Video.

In third place is Sandler’s film Big Daddy, a prime example of a movie that, despite critical reception, remains a fan favorite.

With a Tomatometer score of just 39 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences have rated it more favorably with a 79 percent score.

The 1999 comedy features the Sprouse twins, Dylan and Cole, who were six years old at the time. They jointly played Julien, a young boy adopted by Sandler’s character Sonny Koufax to prove his maturity to an ex-girlfriend.

Big Daddy claimed nine percent of the vote in our Facebook poll, which nearly 350 people participated in.

Another memorable Sandler-Barrymore collaboration is 50 First Dates. In this film, Barrymore’s character, Lucy, suffers from short-term memory loss, prompting Sandler’s character, Henry, to win her over every day.

On IMDb, 50 First Dates holds a 6.8/10 rating, with one reviewer stating: “50 First Dates is a very funny movie and for Sandler it’s one of his best.”

The review highlighted the chemistry between Barrymore and Sandler, stating, “What makes this movie work is the chemistry between Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler since they work so great together and make the film fun.”

If you’re wondering where to watch 50 First Dates, it’s available on Prime Video.

Dominating the poll was Happy Gilmore, with 21 percent of voters naming it their favorite Sandler movie—a fitting tribute given the sequel’s release on Netflix today.

Happy Gilmore, an aspiring sports fan, initially dreams of becoming a professional hockey player but discovers a hidden talent for golf.

He enters a golf tournament to win a cash prize that could save his grandmother’s home from being lost.

Despite his skills, Happy’s unconventional golf course behavior is not well-received by his more traditional competitors.

Backing the poll’s results, Happy Gilmore ranks among Sandler’s top films on Rotten Tomatoes.

While the sequel is now available on Netflix, the original film can be streamed on Prime Video.
