Adorable Baby Koala Clings To Mother As She Undergoes Emergency Surgery

A mother’s bond with her youngling is special, in humans and animals. This was beautifully demonstrated by this adorable joey who did not leave his mother’s side as she underwent life-saving surgery — touching everyone at Australia Zoo. Lizzy, the injured koala, was run over by a car in Brisbane’s west in Queensland on Sunday.

While Lizzy suffered a collapsed lung and had to go under the knife to have it drained, her six-month-old joey Phantom escaped almost untouched.

After the accident, both koalas were taken to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, where Lizzy underwent the emergency procedure.

The 420 gram Phantom supported his mother throughout the entire ordeal, and was pictured holding her chin with his tiny paw.

Lizzy is currently doing well in recovery, with Phantom still by her side.
