The anticipation is building as Apple hints at the debut of a new device set to be unveiled tomorrow.
In what feels like an early Christmas gift for tech enthusiasts, Apple CEO Tim Cook is set to present a brand new device on Wednesday, February 19, as part of the company’s significant spring announcement.
The tech giant has hinted at unveiling a new gadget, and possibly other updated models, urging fans to prepare for what is expected to be the ‘newest member’ of the Apple family, or perhaps several new members.
Tim Cook shared the announcement on Twitter, accompanied by a video of a holographic Apple logo, stating: “Get ready to meet the newest member of the family. Wednesday, February 19. #AppleLaunch.”
Although the specifics of the announcement remain under wraps, there are rumors circulating that suggest the introduction of a new iPhone and several other popular devices.
Here’s a roundup of everything known about tomorrow’s Apple announcement and the potential new products expected to be introduced.
A hybrid device combining features of the iPad and the HomePod smart speaker is on the horizon, sparking curiosity about Apple’s newest artificial intelligence product, informally dubbed ‘HomePad.’ The company is moving closer to competing with Google and Amazon in the AI home hardware market.
This new device is anticipated to function as an AI tablet, featuring a 7-inch square display that can be mounted on a wall. Homeowners could use voice commands to activate Siri, make video calls, and manage a ‘command center for the home.’
According to Apple insider Mark Gurman, the pod, or pad, will adjust dynamically depending on the user’s proximity, for example, by displaying controls when one approaches.
The initial iPhone SE launched in 2016 as Apple’s ‘budget’ phone line.
The second generation arrived in 2020, with a third following in 2022, making a fourth generation seem imminent.
The iPhone SE 3 started at $429, but the upcoming model is expected to be priced around $500, according to Gurman, as reported by The Daily Mail.
This new device is rumored to feature a 6.1-inch OLED display, dual front and rear cameras, and a USB-C charging port.
Significantly, it is expected to eliminate the home button in favor of Face ID, which allows users to unlock the phone and make purchases through facial recognition.
Gurman noted: “The removal of the home button from the iPhone SE means that Apple will have fully phased out the iconic interface, which debuted on the first iPhone in 2007.”
Additional features are expected to include a ‘notch’ on the screen, similar to what was seen on the iPhone 14 before the introduction of Dynamic Island.
It will also come equipped with the A18 chip to support Apple’s new AI software, Apple Intelligence.
Regarding availability, Gurman suggested the phone will be unveiled tomorrow, with a global release expected in late February.
According to the tech expert, “Apple’s new iPhone SE will kick off a pivotal year for its smartphone lineup.
“[iPhone SE 4] will modernize its lower-cost model in a bid to spur growth and entice consumers to switch from other brands.”
It appears not just one but two iPads could be entering the market this year: the iPad 11 and the seventh generation iPad Air.
The iPad 11 is expected to feature an A17 Pro chip, supporting Apple Intelligence, and is rumored to be priced around $449, nearly three years after the iPad 10.
As for the iPad Air 7, it will likely share many components with its predecessor, though Gurman mentioned it might boast improved battery life, faster performance with its new M3 chip, and potentially include a Magic Keyboard.
If Apple introduces the iPhone SE 4, it wouldn’t be surprising if they also provide a sneak peek of additional gadgets launching later this year.
Cook’s teaser Tweet has led to speculation that a new AirTag, a small tracking device, might be part of the release.
This is due to the seven-second video clip in Cook’s Valentine’s Day announcement, which depicted the Apple logo within a silver coin-like shape reminiscent of the AirTag.
The AirTag, priced at $30 each, helps track items via the ‘Find My’ app, useful for those who often misplace keys.
However, it has also been exploited by some for stalking by discreetly hiding the device in items like clothing or cars.
Gurman reports that Apple is working on a revamped version that promises improved range and privacy, though it is not expected until mid-2025.
Lastly, the revelation of a new MacBook Air could occur tomorrow, featuring the new M4 chip to support Apple Intelligence.
The updated model is anticipated to come in 13-inch and 15-inch sizes but is unlikely to have significant design alterations.
Apple plans to make these product announcements via an online event, rather than in-person.
The company typically releases news at 10am PT, so keep an eye out for updates.
