Amazon Prime mini-series praised by Stephen King as ‘bone-shaking and terrifying’ earns 94% on Rotten Tomatoes

Stephen King, renowned for his expertise in horror, once highlighted a mini-series on Prime Video that he found to be both ‘bone-shaking and terrifying.’

King’s suggestions are highly regarded, particularly when it comes to gripping thrillers. When he praises a series, it’s usually worth taking note.

Among the various series he’s praised, one in particular on Amazon Prime Video has captured his attention, earning near-perfect ratings for its compelling storyline.

This series revolves around a substantial cocaine shipment—amounting to 5,000 kilos—procured by the Italian mafia.

The narrative weaves through multiple layers, involving Mexican cartels and an American family business, spanning three continents.

At the core is the Lynwood family: Edward Lynwood, portrayed by Gabriel Byrne, operates a legitimate shipping business that covertly facilitates drug deals.

His daughter, Emma Lynwood, played by Andrea Riseborough, efficiently oversees the logistics of this dangerous operation, while his son Chris Lynwood, portrayed by Dane DeHaan, despite a debilitating illness, contributes significantly to managing the perilous trade.

In Mexico, Manuel Quinteras, a character played by Harold Torres, is a corrupt soldier whose ruthless ambition leads him to collaborate with the Leyra brothers, controlling the drug distribution.

In Italy, the ‘Ndrangheta factions vie for power, with themes of family loyalty and treachery permeating the narrative.

The series, titled ZeroZeroZero, uses the metaphor of ‘000’ grade flour to represent the purest form of cocaine.

In 2020, Stephen King took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express his admiration: “ZERO ZERO ZERO (Amazon): Hard to believe I will see anything this year that’s better than this. Bone-shaking, chilling, terrifying, epic. Dane DeHaan and Andrea Riseborough are incandescent.”

Rotten Tomatoes similarly reflects high praise, with critics awarding it a 94 percent rating, and audiences giving it a commendable 91 percent.

Critics described it as “An addictive thriller whose greatest weakness is that it is at times too withholding, ZeroZeroZero will stick with you long after the credits roll.”

Fans echoed this sentiment, with one stating, “Shows this good are rare indeed… start watching this immediately.”

Another viewer shared, “Show kept me watching all eight episodes. I’m sad there won’t be a season two…”

A third added, “Amazing! Best series I’ve seen in years.”

ZeroZeroZero is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
