Amber Heard Reveals Rare Glimpse of Her New Life Abroad After Changing Her Name

Amber Heard has offered a fresh glimpse into her life in Spain, more than four years after making the move abroad.

Once one of Hollywood’s most recognizable stars, Heard stepped away from life in the US after her intensely public split from former husband Johnny Depp.

The pair met during the making of The Rum Diaries and were together for four years in total, including a little over 12 months of marriage.

Their separation, however, became the subject of a lengthy and highly scrutinized legal battle. In 2019, Depp filed a defamation lawsuit over an op-ed Heard wrote for The Washington Post about surviving abuse. Although Depp was not identified by name in the article, the case ultimately ended with a finding that she had defamed him.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star had been seeking $50 million, though he was awarded $15 million instead.

Following the trial, Heard relocated to Spain with her daughter Oonagh, who was born via surrogate in 2021. Reports have claimed the actress has also used the alias Martha Jane Cannary, the birth name of legendary frontier figure Calamity Jane.

Heard later expanded her family again, announcing in May 2025 that she had welcomed twins, a son named Ocean and a daughter named Agnes, and describing her family as complete.

Now 40, Heard has occasionally shared small snapshots of her Spanish life, though she has mostly remained out of the spotlight.

Recently, though, she posted an update online after taking part in a 10k race in Madrid.

“First race glow,” she captioned a snap of her in a pink gym set and smiling at the camera after finishing the run.

She also uploaded Instagram Story images showing her eldest daughter greeting her with a hug at the finish line. “Nothing beats this feeling,” the actress captioned it.

Fans quickly responded, sharing how pleased they were to see her thriving.

“Love seeing you so happy. Beyond deserved,” somebody commented.

“I’m so happy you are happy. Queen,” wrote another, as Julia Fox replied with a string of heart-eye emojis.

Someone else added: “Strongest woman I know.”

Although Heard has largely stepped back from film, she has not left performing behind completely. In 2025, she appeared on stage in Spirit of the People, where her work drew strong praise.

Vanity Fair penned about the star: “Amber Heard’s command of the stage, exceptional particularly for someone in her professional theatrical debut. As one of the three emotional anchors in the rangy, often surreal play, her character is cut from the same cloth as Blanche DuBois and her ilk: a torrid backstory and a thinning grasp on reality.

“Heard is not only eloquent and beautiful (and fluent in Spanish), but she embodies the fragility and resilience of a classic Tennessee Williams heroine.”
