Hairless ‘American Girl’ Doll Warms The Heart Of One Particular Little Girl With Alopecia

When a girl owns a doll, it’s more than just a piece of plastic to play dress-up with, she sees it as an extension of herself. Here’s a young girl who’s never been happier to have one that perfectly reflects her.

Meredith Bailey’s daughter, Mia, was diagnosed with alopecia when she was 4-years-old.

As a mom, Meredith was always looking for ways to empower Mia. Meredith herself grew up with American Girl dolls, and wanted to share that experience with her daughter. When they saw a line of bald American Girl dolls at their local mall, it nearly brought them to tears. Meredith later wrote on Facebook:

“…These dolls were not hidden in the back and [did not have] to be asked for. They were there for all to see, especially for my daughter who wondered why they were not out before.

This may feel to your company to be “no big deal”, but to little girls who may feel “alone” and so desperately want to see dolls that reflect their beauty—it means more than you know. I cried many happy tears yesterday.

Thank you so much for including ALL children.”

American Girl also makes dolls with wheelchairs, hearing aids, and diabetic testing kits.

It’s great to know that even with different circumstances, every girl can feel like an American Girl.
