Amy Schumer discloses real reason for weight loss after online criticism of her ‘moon face’ resulted in a diagnosis ‘that can be fatal’

Amy Schumer has openly discussed the real reason behind her weight loss after she faced severe online criticism regarding her appearance.

The comedian has revealed her struggle with Cushing’s syndrome, a condition caused by prolonged exposure to high cortisol levels.

“I want so much for women to love themselves and be relentless when fighting for their own health in a system that usually doesn’t believe them,” she expressed in a previous Instagram video.

According to the National Institutes of Health, symptoms of Cushing’s syndrome can include skin that bruises easily, an increase in body fat around the neck and shoulders, thin limbs, and a round face.

Some people have developed Cushing’s Syndrome after receiving steroid injections. Schumer disclosed she had been receiving these injections following treatment for her breast reduction and C-section scars.

In a conversation on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Schumer explained: “So I got these steroid injections, and it resulted in this thing called Cushing syndrome — which I wouldn’t have known if the internet hadn’t come for me so hard.”

At 44 years old, Schumer has recently updated her fans on her health and its effect on her weight loss journey.

She clarified that contrary to reports, she lost 50 pounds instead of 30 and stated she doesn’t use Botox or fillers.

“Not to look hot which does feel fun and temporary,” she noted. “I did it to survive.”

Discussing her Cushing’s Syndrome, she added: “I had a disease that makes your face extremely puffy that can kill you, but the internet caught it, and the disease has cleared.”

Schumer’s statement was accompanied by a video clip filmed by her son Gene, whom she shares with husband Chris Fischer.

The video began with Schumer relaxing in bed, while Gene offered a glimpse into their family life and home.

Schumer also mentioned that she is using Mounjaro and acknowledged having undergone plastic surgery ‘over the years’.

“Sorry for whatever feeling it’s giving you that I lost that weight,” she continued. “Sorry to anyone that lets down.”

In her Instagram post, the Trainwreck actor addressed rumors about her marriage to Fischer.

“Whatever ends up happening with Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism,” she wrote, referencing her partner’s autism diagnosis.

“Fingers crossed we can make it through, he’s the best.”
