Andrew and Tristan Tate arrested in Miami after US Marshals confirm detention

Social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate have been arrested in Miami by the US Marshals Service, according to a statement made to the press.

The arrest marks another significant development in a years-long legal saga for the controversial brothers, who face multiple criminal investigations across three countries. The Tate brothers, who hold dual U.S. and British citizenship, have been at the center of numerous allegations involving human trafficking, rape and other serious crimes, all of which they deny.

Andrew and Tristan Tate first attracted widespread attention as social media personalities known for promoting an ultra-masculine lifestyle and misogynistic rhetoric that appealed to millions of largely young male followers. Andrew Tate, a former professional kickboxer, built a massive online following by marketing courses and exclusive groups centered on wealth and male dominance. The brothers amassed billions of social media views before facing legal consequences.

The current arrest follows a complex series of legal proceedings that began in December 2022, when Romanian authorities arrested both brothers along with two Romanian women. Romanian prosecutors alleged that the Tate brothers formed an organized criminal group that stretched across Romania, the United Kingdom and the United States, recruiting women through deception and subjecting them to sexual exploitation through physical violence and coercion. Andrew Tate was also charged with rape.

In June 2023, all four individuals were formally charged with rape, human trafficking and forming an organized crime group to sexually exploit women. The Romanian prosecution expanded its investigation in August 2024 to include additional allegations of trafficking minors, sexual intercourse with a minor, money laundering and attempting to influence witnesses.

The brothers remained under various restrictions in Romania until February 2025, when Romanian authorities lifted their travel ban. The brothers subsequently left Romania on a private jet and arrived in the United States, landing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The lifting of restrictions came after reports that the Trump administration had lobbied Romanian authorities on behalf of the brothers, who had been vocal supporters of President Donald Trump.

The arrival in Florida prompted an immediate response from state authorities. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced a criminal investigation into the brothers within days of their return to the U.S., directing his office to execute search warrants and issue subpoenas. Governor Ron DeSantis publicly stated that the brothers were not welcome in Florida, saying he had not been involved in or notified of their arrival and expressing concern about the alleged crimes.

Beyond Romania, the brothers face significant legal exposure in the United Kingdom. In May 2025, the British Crown Prosecution Service brought 21 charges against the Tates, including rape, actual bodily harm and human trafficking. British police obtained an arrest warrant for the brothers in March 2024, and the Crown Prosecution Service has indicated it will pursue extradition following the completion of the Romanian proceedings.

In addition to criminal investigations, the brothers have faced civil lawsuits in the United States. They filed defamation suits against accusers, while also being sued by women who accused them of sexual assault and coercion. The brothers have consistently maintained their innocence across all jurisdictions.

The brothers also faced investigation by UK authorities regarding historical allegations. In March 2026, Hertfordshire Constabulary announced it would reopen an investigation into rape and sexual assault allegations made in 2014 and 2015, following a misconduct inquiry into how the original case had been handled.

Andrew Tate has claimed that the accusations against him represent a coordinated campaign against him, posting on social media that the case against him is “empty” and that he and his brother are being misunderstood. When the brothers arrived in Fort Lauderdale in February 2025, Andrew stated to reporters that he and his brother were “largely misunderstood” and that the pair were exercising their right to innocent until proven guilty.

The arrest in Miami represents the latest chapter in what has become an unprecedented multi-jurisdictional legal case involving allegations of serious criminal conduct spanning years and multiple continents.
