Spider-Man: Brand New Day appears to set up Peter Parker’s next chapter, and its closing tease may also be laying groundwork for a far larger Avengers story.
In Tom Holland’s fourth standalone MCU film, Peter is forced to start over after everyone forgets who he is. That leaves him trying to piece together a new life in New York, with MJ and Ned no longer remembering their bond with him.
Most of the movie stays focused on Peter’s personal fallout, but the final moments shift attention toward what could be coming next.

There is no mid-credits scene, but the post-credits sequence revisits Ned’s Spidey Tracker app. It scans for Spider-Man, then pulls back from Queens to Earth and finally far beyond the planet, suggesting the hero is somewhere in deep space.
That ending has immediately led to speculation that Holland’s Spider-Man could turn up in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. At the same time, Andrew Garfield has drawn fresh attention after being asked about the scene.
When ScreenRant asked whether he knew anything about the off-world Spider-Man tease, Garfield responded:
“I do not. First I’ve heard of it.”
After that, Garfield and the interviewer briefly joked about the same style of denial he used during the run-up to No Way Home. Even so, Garfield again insisted he had no knowledge of the post-credits moment and repeated that it was the first time he had heard about it.
The discussion then moved to Tobey Maguire, with Garfield told that if the mystery Spider-Man was not him, perhaps it was his fellow No Way Home star instead.
“I guess so. It could be. Who knows? Or maybe Miles Morales. I don’t know.”
His answer does not confirm Garfield, Maguire, or Miles Morales as being involved in any future Marvel appearance, but it has still given fans plenty to dissect.
That is especially true because Garfield spent so long denying his involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home before eventually appearing in the film alongside Holland and Maguire. For that reason, some viewers are unlikely to treat this latest response as definitive. In fact, just days earlier, Garfield suggested he would consider returning to Spider-Man under the right creative circumstances, telling The Playlist podcast that he would need a project to be “very, very odd” and “completely unconventional” to interest him.
The Brand New Day stinger also leaves several major details open. It never explains why Spider-Man is in space, when he got there, or even whether the tracker has located Holland’s Peter at all.
Even so, the cosmic setting has pushed many fans toward the same conclusion: Marvel may be using the scene to tee up a Spider-Man and Avengers crossover. That idea is reinforced by the final on-screen promise:
“Spider-Man will return.”
Another reason that theory has gained traction is Mark Ruffalo’s previous comments about where Spider-Man’s story is heading. Ruffalo, who reprises Bruce Banner in Brand New Day, made a striking claim while promoting the movie in Italy.
“I promise you 1,000 percent that he [Spider-Man] will be fighting an alien in the future.”
Miles Morales has also become a major part of the conversation, and not only because Garfield mentioned him.
In an interview with 1LIVE, as covered by MovieWeb, Holland recently suggested he already knows when Miles will show up. During a reverse-question segment, the interviewer asked Holland what he would want to ask if he were a Spider-Man fan himself. Holland replied:
“I guess it would be, ‘When will we get Miles Morales?’ would be the question I would ask, because I know the answer.”
Holland has expanded on this in other recent interviews, indicating that Marvel has a clear plan for bringing Miles to the MCU and that he is actively involved in shepherd the character’s introduction, though he cannot yet reveal the timeline. In comments to the Associated Press on the “Brand New Day” press tour, Holland stated he has a “desire to bring Miles Morales to the screen” and to “shepherd the lucky young kid who gets that job.”
For now, Garfield’s denial can be read in more than one way: either he genuinely knows nothing, or he is once again keeping Marvel secrets under wraps. Either way, audiences may have to wait until Avengers: Doomsday arrives on December 18, 2026, or until more is revealed about Secret Wars, scheduled for December 17, 2027, before they get a clearer answer.
