Andy Cohen Reveals Why He Turned Down ‘Dancing With the Stars’

Andy Cohen has revealed why he turned down “Dancing With the Stars.”

In a new interview, published Tuesday, the Bravo boss, 56, explained that he declined an offer to appear on the hit ABC dance competition “many, many, many years ago.” The “Watch What Happens Live” host said his refusal came down to one simple fact: he does not want to be seen dancing on television.

“I can’t dance on TV,” Cohen said in the interview. “No one wants to see that.”

Cohen elaborated that he “used to be the great freeform dancer,” but his concertgoing habits have made him wary of public performance. He noted that every time he attends a Grateful Dead show, “people film me dancing and then I get made fun of on TikTok.”

“Let me dance in peace,” Cohen added.

While Cohen passed on “DWTS,” multiple stars from his Bravo universe have competed on the series. “Real Housewives” alumni Phaedra Parks, Teresa Giudice, Kenya Moore, Lisa Vanderpump and Erika Jayne have all appeared, as has “Vanderpump Rules” alum Ariana Madix, who reached the finals three years ago. “Summer House” star Ciara Miller is set to compete on the upcoming season, premiering Sept. 15 on ABC and Disney+.

The official Season 35 cast will be announced Sept. 2 on “Good Morning America.” Other confirmed contestants include Savannah Bananas player Jackson Olson, “Love Island UK” alum Maura Higgins, Jimmy Kimmel’s sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez and “Save the Last Dance” star Julia Stiles.

Elsewhere in the interview, Cohen addressed another popular competition series, revealing that he has not been asked to join “The Traitors.”

“First of all, I think I would be eliminated immediately,” he said. “I think I would be such a target, and I’ve produced competition reality shows, so I don’t know who would want me on their cast.”

Cohen also noted that he hosts the reunion specials for the Emmy Award-winning Peacock series, which he’d “like to keep doing.” That role would create a clear conflict of interest were he to appear as a contestant.

“The Traitors” has featured numerous Bravo stars across its four seasons, including Miller, Parks, Kate Chastain, Tamra Judge, Mercedes Javid, Tom Sandoval, Dolores Catania, Lisa Rinna, Candiace Bassett and Dorinda Medley. Catania won Season 3 in 2025 alongside Dylan Efron, Gabby Windey and Lord Ivar Mountbatten.

In the viral moment that sparked ongoing interest in Cohen’s potential reality competition appearances, the Bravo executive has consistently maintained boundaries between his producing and hosting duties and any temptation to cross into contestant territory. His comments to Variety mark the most detailed explanation he has given for why two of television’s biggest competition formats remain off his personal resume.
