Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s teenage daughter has introduced a new name, seemingly as a way to create some distance from her father.
Shiloh Jolie made an unexpected appearance at a Los Angeles gathering at the renowned Oliver House recently, where she showcased her choreography skills for a dance performance.
This private dinner event, attended by some of Hollywood’s elite including fashion influencers, actors, and models, was held to celebrate Isabel Marant’s new capsule collection with Net-A-Porter. The event featured a remarkable performance orchestrated by Shiloh.
During the event, Shiloh, who participated both as a guest and a talent, choreographed a dance performance under her new name. Dancers Keoni Rose and Tako Suzuki executed the captivating routine during a live performance of Luella’s latest single ‘Naïve’.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, often dubbed ‘Brangelina,’ parted ways in 2016 and went through a contentious divorce that continued until 2024. They welcomed Shiloh Nouvel Jolie Pitt on May 27, 2006.
The stars of Mr & Mrs Smith, who met during the filming of the 2004 movie, are parents to six children, including their three biological children: Shiloh, and the twins Knox and Vivienne.
Shiloh is the couple’s first biological child, joining the family with adopted siblings Maddox and Zahara. Later, the family expanded with the adoption of Pax and the birth of the twins.
Recently, Shiloh has started using the name Shi, which seems to signal a move away from her father; however, it’s uncertain whether this will be her official stage name.
Upon reaching the age of 18, Shiloh filed to remove her father’s last name from hers, something she pursued after becoming somewhat distanced from Pitt. TMZ reported that the application for the name change was made on her 18th birthday.
According to Hello Magazine, Shiloh and Pitt have not been seen publicly together since 2014.
The protracted divorce proceedings between Pitt and Jolie were contentious, with Jolie making accusations of domestic abuse, which Pitt has consistently denied. These allegations are believed to have impacted his relationship with their children.
Reports suggest that the 61-year-old actor was informed of Shiloh’s decision to change her last name. A source told PEOPLE, “He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name. He’s never felt more joy than when she was born. He always wanted a daughter.
“The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad.”
Another insider mentioned to the publication that the Bullet Train star ‘still loves all of his kids tremendously’, stating, “This whole process has been very hard for the whole family.”
Nonetheless, Shiloh’s lawyer criticized any claims suggesting the name change was intended as a public declaration.
Peter Levine commented to PEOPLE: “Shiloh Jolie did not take out an ‘ad’ announcing any name change, and any press reporting that is inaccurate.
“As Shiloh’s attorney, I am required to publish a legal notice because the law in California requires that of anyone who wants to change their name. That legal notice was published in the Los Angeles Times, as is required.”
The development follows similar actions by Pitt and Jolie’s daughter Vivienne, who also seems to have dropped Pitt from her name.
The 16-year-old assisted her mother in producing the new musical, The Outsiders, and according to PEOPLE, she was credited as Vivienne Jolie in the Playbill.
Additionally, their eldest daughter Zahara introduced herself as ‘Zahara Marley Jolie’ in a video shared by Essence in November 2023.
