Angelina Jolie has responded to a reported non-disclosure agreement (NDA) request from Brad Pitt as their divorce continues to unfold.
The divorce battle between Jolie and Pitt has been ongoing for several years, with Jolie filing for divorce due to ‘irreconcilable differences.’
The couple, who were together for 12 years and married for two before their separation, are in a dispute over the ownership of Château Miraval, a winery in France.
They both had a stake in the $25 million winery business until Jolie decided to sell her portion in 2021.
In 2022, Pitt accused Jolie of violating ‘contractual rights’ by selling her share of Château Miraval without informing him, as reported by the BBC at the time.
Jolie countered by asserting that she had communicated her intentions to Pitt, who then allegedly requested her to sign a non-disclosure agreement if he were to purchase her share.
In a countersuit, Jolie accused Pitt of ‘waging a vindictive war’ against her, as reported by PEOPLE.
On October 6, Jolie filed a claim stating that Pitt insisted on an NDA for him to buy her interest in the winery.
“There was no practical need for the NDA, as I had not pressed charges or spoken out about the events that led to our divorce,” Jolie stated in the filing.
“In fact, for the previous five years, I had never publicly said a word about his actions. As the mother of our children, as well as an advocate for victims of violence around the world, I found his demand extremely painful.”
The documents filed by attorneys in Los Angeles County Superior Court on October 6 describe the divorce’s impact on Jolie and her children.
According to PEOPLE, Jolie wrote: “Post-separation, I immediately began to look for a new house for me and our children, initially renting a home while looking for a more stable solution.”
“Because I wanted to ensure that Brad remained an important part of our children’s lives, I looked to buy a property near his home. At the time, my savings were tied up in Miraval, and I had not asked Brad for alimony or any other financial support.”
Jolie also mentioned that the divorce process has been ’emotionally difficult.’
A source close to Pitt told PEOPLE: “This is a commercial business dispute, entirely separate from the divorce. It’s unfortunate but not surprising that ‘excuses’ are now being made for failing to produce emails in discovery.”
Requests for comment have been made to Pitt’s representatives.
