Anne Hathaway made good on her promise to disappear.
The Oscar winner, 43, shared an Instagram video Friday showing herself literally vanishing into a puff of fake smoke while promoting her thriller “Verity,” which hit theaters that same day. The clip captured her mid-sentence about the film’s release schedule before she dissolved entirely from the frame.

“Thank you everyone for your support, and for making this an incredible, unforgettable year,” she wrote atop the clip, captioning the post, “Over and out @verityfilm in theaters today!”
A bewildered team member appeared on camera searching for Hathaway after her disappearance. The video then cut to mock news stories about the star’s “evaporation,” with headlines including “Anne Hathaway simply evaporates” and “As promised, Anne Hathaway vanishes into a plume of smoke.”

The stunt fulfilled a pledge Hathaway made to Entertainment Tonight last month. “I’m going to vanish in a plume of smoke” after finishing “Verity” press, she told the outlet, joking that “you’re not gonna see me until you have to,” She added that she was “definitely going to take some time off” following the demanding promotional circuit.
“I’m joining Tom on the track in March,” she continued, referencing her upcoming co-starring role alongside Tom Cruise in the newly announced “Days of Thunder” sequel.

Hathaway’s 2025 output has been extraordinarily prolific. Beyond “Verity,” her releases this year included “Mother Mary,” “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” “The Odyssey” and “The End of Oak Street” — five films total that kept her on an relentless promotional treadmill through much of the year.

The “Les Misérables” actress went public with her third pregnancy in June. She is already mother to sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6, with husband Adam Shulman.

During a July appearance on “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” Hathaway quipped that baby No. 3 represents her “buzzer beater.” She confessed she and Shulman “knew what [they] were doing when they conceived” and that the pregnancy was planned, but were nonetheless “so shocked it worked.”
The disappearing act offered a playful punctuation mark to what Hathaway herself characterized as an unforgettable year — one that blended professional overload with growing family anticipation.

Hathaway’s Cruise collaboration is expected to begin production in March.
