Guess who had a massive fanboy moment on the set of “The Boys”? That’s right, Antony Starr, who plays the spine-chilling Homelander! Imagine working with your first on-screen crush. Most of us would be a bundle of nerves!
It’s common to crush on characters from our favorite movies as kids, dreaming of one day meeting them. Very few of us actually get that chance, but Antony Starr turned that dream into a reality.
In an unexpected twist during his stint on the hit series The Boys, Starr came not just face-to-face, but got to share the screen with his childhood movie crush!
Playing the intense role of Homelander on Prime Video’s superhero series, fans might point out a particularly bone-chilling scene in season four, episode seven. But that’s nothing compared to the jittery feeling of working alongside your childhood crush!
Spilling the tea on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Starr confessed that his early crush was none other than a fellow cast member on The Boys.
He reminisced, “When I was little, and she was actually not that much older than me, but slightly, I was a big fan of The Karate Kid. I used to do karate when I was a little kid, and my dad took me to see The Karate Kid at the movies.”
In a heartfelt revelation to IGN, Starr shared, “I got a brand new pair of shoes and a new Swanndri and we went and watched that and I was like, ‘F**k you Ralph Macchio, I want her’.”
By ‘her,’ Starr was referring to Ali, famously played by Elisabeth Shue, who he gushed about to Meyers as ‘probably [his] first on-screen crush’.
Imagine his surprise when years later, he found himself acting alongside Shue, who portrayed Madelyn Stillwell, Homelander’s boss in the series. It must have felt surreal!
He admitted, “All of a sudden, she gets hired to be Homelander’s boss in this evil corporation. And I was like, ‘I have to act with Elisabeth Shue, and I’m like, what am I going to do? What am I going to wear? Do I look good?'”
Despite the whirlwind of emotions, Starr noted that Shue is ‘the nicest person,’ putting at ease any nerves he had about working with her.
Catch all the electric dynamics and maybe a touch of starstruck sweetness on The Boys, streaming now on Prime Video.
