Few things are as frustrating as a phone running out of battery, particularly when you’re away from home. Fortunately for iPhone users, Apple has pointed out that adjusting three specific settings on your device can significantly extend your battery life.
Apple has outlined a few strategies to help conserve battery life, focusing on three key settings that can prevent your phone from dying at inconvenient times.
One suggestion from Apple is to manage your “Background Location” settings. They explain: “Background Location: An app has been using your location in the background. To improve battery life, set the app’s location access to While In Use.” Often, apps request location services upon installation, which can be necessary, but leaving location access on continuously can drain your battery.
To control this, allow apps to access your location only when they’re in use. You can do this by navigating to Settings, selecting ‘Privacy & Security’, then choosing the app and toggling location access off when it’s not needed.
Another straightforward tip involves screen brightness. Lowering your screen brightness can help save battery life, but many users might not know how to adjust this setting. iPhones are equipped with light sensors that measure ambient light and adjust the screen brightness automatically for optimal viewing.
If the screen brightness does not seem to be adjusting correctly, try toggling the auto-brightness feature off and on again.
The ‘Auto-Lock’ feature is designed to help preserve battery life by locking your phone after a period of inactivity. To maximize this setting, go to Settings, select ‘Display & Brightness’, and choose ‘Auto-Lock’. You can adjust the duration before your phone automatically locks.
If these adjustments help extend even one phone’s battery life, then it will have been worth it.
