A Bronx gunman was wheeled out on a gurney and taken into custody after barricading himself inside an apartment following a double shooting, police said.
The suspect, who has not been identified, opened fire inside a Claremont apartment building just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the NYPD. Officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired in the hallway of the building near the intersection of Mount Eden and Morris avenues, a residential pocket in the West Bronx.
A 70-year-old woman was struck in the abdomen and a 60-year-old man was shot in the torso during the barrage, police said. Both victims were rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition as of late Saturday night.

The gunman fired his weapon multiple times in the building’s hallway before retreating into an apartment and barricading himself inside, according to police. NYPD officers established a perimeter and negotiated with the man during the standoff.
The Post observed the alleged shooter being removed from the building on a gurney by EMS personnel following his surrender. He was taken into police custody without further incident, cops said.
Investigators have not yet determined whether the suspect knew either of the two victims or what motivated the shooting. The relationship between the gunman and the wounded pair remains under investigation, according to the NYPD.
The Claremont neighborhood has seen periodic bursts of gun violence despite overall declines in Bronx crime rates this year. Saturday night’s double shooting marks the latest in a string of incidents that have put residents on edge in the area surrounding the apartment complex.
Both victims were being treated at St. Barnabas, the flagship hospital of the Bronx’s largest medical network, as detectives began processing the crime scene and interviewing witnesses from neighboring units.
Police have not released the suspect’s name or any charges he may face as the investigation continues.
