Artist who painted Jesus at age 8 says she vanished and experienced heaven

Akiane Kramarik says a childhood disappearance that triggered a police search was actually a seven-hour heavenly journey that reshaped her family’s entire worldview.

The artist, 32, recounted the episode on the “Hang Out with Sean Hannity” podcast, describing how she vanished at age 5 from her Missouri home while her parents, brothers, neighbors and eventually law enforcement fanned out to find her. Kramarik said her photo was posted throughout town as authorities treated the case as a possible kidnapping.

“My mom comes, and she can’t find me. My brothers search around the house, they couldn’t find me. [They] call[ed] my dad. Every single neighbor, every friend… The police come, their dogs come, everybody is around the whole neighborhood searching for me. I’m missing, and no one knows where,” she said on the program.

Kramarik said she watched the frantic scene unfold from above, as though observing her own search party through eagle eyes.

“I recall I am in this entire zone, I’m seeing my whole family and all the dogs and all of the police below,” she continued. “It’s as if I have like an eagle-eyes perspective.”

She told Hannity that her body seemed to “zoom out” before everything went black, launching what she experienced as an extended passage through another realm. Her parents later told her the physical disappearance lasted roughly six and a half to seven hours, though Kramarik said the spiritual portion felt even longer than that.

During that span, she said, God revealed extraordinary sights and imparted knowledge directly to her.

The experience carried consequences far beyond the child herself. Kramarik noted that her parents, who had raised their children without religion, found their nonbelieving stance challenged by what had happened. The incident prompted them to reconsider their spiritual assumptions entirely.

Kramarik’s Missouri disappearance stands as merely one of several profound experiences she has described from her early years, a childhood defined by both mystical claims and remarkable creative output.

At age 8, she completed “Prince of Peace,” the portrait of Jesus that would become her signature work and launch her to global attention as a painting prodigy. The artwork’s fame has persisted for decades, with the image remaining among the most widely recognized contemporary religious portraits.

Kramarik said the heavenly encounter left permanent marks that extended well past her canvas, influencing her perspective and her family’s trajectory in ways that outlasted the immediate crisis of her disappearance.

The “Prince of Peace” painting emerged from a household that had no prior religious framework, making the work’s subject matter and the child’s claimed divine encounters all the more striking to those who later learned her background. Kramarik has maintained since childhood that her artistic visions and spiritual experiences arrived as gifts rather than as products of any taught tradition.

Her parents’ eventual shift away from nonreligious upbringing came directly from witnessing what they could not explain through ordinary means, according to the artist’s account.

Kramarik continues to discuss her early experiences publicly as both an artist and a speaker, with the Hannity interview representing her latest detailed recounting of the Missouri incident that once made her a missing child.
