Argentinian authorities have detailed their findings from Liam Payne’s hotel room, noting that ‘various items were broken’.
The One Direction star tragically died at 31 years old after a fall from the balcony of his third-floor hotel room in Buenos Aires.
Police responded to the CasaSur hotel in the capital at approximately 5:00 pm yesterday (October 16).
The hotel manager informed authorities that a man had fallen from his room’s balcony.
Police have now revealed their findings from his hotel room, indicating that alcohol and medications such as clonazepam were present.
Clonazepam is commonly used to manage epilepsy, involuntary muscle spasms, and panic disorders.
The police, who have collected fingerprints and other evidence from the room, described the scene as a ‘total disorder’ with numerous items broken and medication strewn about.
On the floor below, his body was found with whiskey, a mobile phone, and a lighter nearby.
Previously, police stated they were summoned due to reports of an ‘aggressive man who could be under the effects of drugs and alcohol’.
Payne was in Argentina to attend a concert by his former One Direction bandmate, Niall Horan, and was seen dancing at the event alongside his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy.
On Monday (October 14), Cassidy shared a TikTok video documenting her journey from South America back to the U.S., explaining why she left before Payne.
In the video, she said: “Travel back to Florida with me. I was so ready to leave.”
“Honestly, I love South America but I hate staying in one place for too long and we were supposed to be there for like five days and it turned into two weeks and I was just like I need to go home.”
Discussing the incident, Argentine Director of Emergency Medical Services, Alberto Crescenti, stated on the nation’s Todo Noticias TV channel: “At 17.04, through the 911 integrated public safety system, we were alerted of a person in an internal courtyard of a south house hotel management.”
“At 17.11, a SAME team arrived and verified the death of this man and later we discovered he was a singer in a musical group.
“Regrettably, he had injuries that were not compatible with life due to his fall, so we had to confirm his death, with no possibility of resuscitation.”
