A shooting incident at a university campus has resulted in the death of at least one person, and six others have suffered injuries.
The tragic event occurred at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, where police reported that seven individuals were struck by gunfire near the university’s International Cultural Center.
Additionally, several individuals sustained injuries while trying to escape, as they were knocked down and trampled during the chaos.
Located approximately 55 miles west of Philadelphia, Lincoln University is recognized on its website as ‘the nation’s first degree-granting Historically Black College and University.’
Authorities have apprehended one individual who was carrying a firearm.
The night has been described by officials as ‘devastating.’

Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe expressed: “We’re devastated to announce tonight that one person has died, six other people have been struck by gunfire.”
He further stated: “This is a devastating night. It was a chaotic scene, and people fled in every direction.”
De Barrena-Sarobe noted that authorities are still trying to understand the sequence of the tragic events, saying: “We don’t have a lot of answers about exactly what happened.”
“We are investigating with the full power of federal, state and local law enforcement.”
The motive behind the attack remains unknown at this point.
De Barrena-Sarobe indicated that the incident does not currently seem to be an instance where someone intended to cause mass harm on a college campus.
A statement from the Chester County District Attorney’s office reads: “Local, state, and federal law enforcement are investigating the shooting at Lincoln University. At this time, seven gunshot victims have been identified.”

“The public should continue to avoid the area around the University. If anyone has information about this investigation, please call 1-800-CALLFBI.”
Those injured in the shooting have been transported to a hospital in Delaware for medical care, though the extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.
Officials have stated that the university campus is no longer under lockdown, although the location of the shooting is still considered an active crime scene.
Lincoln University has announced via Instagram that counseling services will be provided to those impacted by the incident.
Governor Josh Shapiro shared on social media that he had been informed about the shooting and extended his sympathies to the university community.
He wrote: “Join Lori and me in praying for the Lincoln University community.”
