Officials in Utah have provided an update regarding the investigation into the fatal shooting of US activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University.
At the age of 31, Kirk was tragically shot and killed on Wednesday, September 11, during a debate event hosted by his organization, Turning Point USA.
While engaging in a discussion with an audience member about gun violence, Kirk was shot in the neck. Despite being transported to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities, including the FBI, have been fervently searching for the individual responsible for Kirk’s death, releasing both video footage of the suspected shooter and still images of a person of interest.
As the search continued into its third day on Friday, Beau Mason, commissioner of the Utah Department of Public Safety, was interviewed by NBC News. He was asked if it was believed that the shooter might remain near the university or at least within the state.
Regrettably, Mason acknowledged that they did not have a definitive answer.
He stated: “We have no idea. We’re exploring leads for individuals that live close by. We literally have persons of interest, tips coming in on the tip line, that are spanning far and wide.”
Further updates to follow.
