Authorities have stated that individuals apprehended in connection with Matthew Perry’s sudden demise last year were aware of their wrongdoing.
Matthew Perry was discovered lifeless in his hot tub on October 28, 2023. The cause of death was determined to be ‘the acute effects of ketamine’.
Ketamine residues were detected in the Friends star’s system, initially deemed an accidental overdose, prompting numerous inquiries from fans and officials.
In May 2024, the Los Angeles Police Department declared that it would probe the origin of the ketamine in his system.
A significant development occurred on Monday (August 12) when it was announced that several individuals had been detained in relation to Perry’s death.
By Thursday, additional details emerged. The US Department of Justice revealed that their investigation had uncovered a ‘broad underground criminal network’ that exploited the actor by supplying him with ketamine.
Commenting on the case, US Attorney Martin Estrada stated, “This network included a live-in assistant, various go-betweens, two medical doctors, and a major source of drug supply known as ‘The Ketamine Queen’.”
“These defendants took advantage of Mr. Perry’s addiction issues to enrich themselves. They knew what they were doing was wrong. They knew what they were doing was risking great danger to Mr. Perry.”
“But they did it anyways. In the end, these defendants were more interested in profiting off Mr. Perry than caring for his well-being.”
The five suspects have been identified:
Chavez, Iwasama, and Fleming have so far pleaded guilty to the charges.
Perry openly discussed his struggles with drug addiction on numerous occasions, most notably in his 2022 memoir **Friends, Lovers, and The Big Terrible Thing**.
