The autopsy results for a French streamer who gained fame for his gaming and extreme challenges have provided further insight into his untimely death.
Jean Pormanove, who captured the attention of thousands with his content, raised alarm among viewers when it seemed he passed away during an almost 12-day broadcast on the streaming platform Kick on August 18.
Authorities confirmed that he was discovered in a rented room used for streaming purposes in Contes, close to Nice, France.
The 46-year-old, whose real name was Raphaël Graven, had been known for producing contentious content, often appearing to be mistreated on camera.
Reports indicate he was subjected to slaps, force-feeding, strangulation, and paintball gunfire as part of ‘entertainment’ activities.
According to The Times of India, Pormanove endured ‘ten days and nights of torture’ leading up to his death.
Nonetheless, French newspaper Le Parisien reported that findings from the Nice prosecutor’s office revealed the autopsy determined his death ‘was not traumatic in origin and was not linked to the intervention of a third party’.
The prosecutor’s office further noted that Pormanove had a history of cardiac issues and was under treatment for his thyroid gland.
At the time of his death, the stream also involved two other streamers, Owen Cenazandotti (Naruto) and Safine Hamadi (Safine).
These individuals had previously been interrogated by authorities earlier in the year following allegations they exploited vulnerable people for profit through online events.
Pormanove had been interviewed in January as a potential victim, yet he denied any mistreatment by the duo, insisting that the actions were ‘staged’.
A representative for Kick expressed their sorrow over the incident and pledged to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding his death.
The statement read: “We are urgently reviewing the circumstances and collaborating with relevant stakeholders. Kick’s community guidelines are designed to protect creators, and we are committed to enforcing them across our platform.”
Pormanove’s family has also spoken out following his sudden passing. His sister claims he succumbed to ‘exhaustion’ and asserts that his death was preventable.
In a statement, she expressed: “I was very, very proud of what my brother became.
“I didn’t watch everything, but I think he shouldn’t have died like that, that he died of exhaustion. What he went through is unacceptable.”
Additionally, rapper Drake, alongside online streamer Adin Ross, is reportedly planning to finance the funeral expenses.
