Becca Good’s immediate response to witnessing the fatal shooting of her wife Renee by ICE

On the morning of January 7, 2026, Becca and Renee Good began their day as usual.

They got up, prepared for the day, and then drove their 6-year-old son to his elementary school in their maroon Honda Pilot.

While returning home on the snowy streets of Minneapolis, Becca proposed that they take a detour to join the protest against the numerous ICE agents who had descended upon the city in a crackdown on illegal immigration.

Renee agreed, wanting to stand in solidarity with friends, neighbors, and community members opposing the armed presence – a choice that would unfortunately lead to her tragic death.

The events unfolded in seconds as Renee was fatally shot by ICE agent Jonathan Ross while she sat behind the wheel of the car.

Ross, a seasoned ICE agent since 2015 and a firearms instructor the year before Renee’s death, was involved, as reported by PEOPLE.

Witnesses later reported hearing ‘three pops of a gun’ that led to screams, with the haunting phrase ‘You killed her’ ringing out in the chaos.

Though the investigation into the shooting is ongoing, it is known that Renee reversed her SUV as an ICE agent tried to open her door, yelling, “Get out of the f–king car.”

She then drove forward, prompting Ross to fire through the windshield, causing her to speed up and crash into a parked car.

The fire department records noted she was shot four times, with wounds on her chest, forearm, and head.

Following the shooting, numerous 911 calls were made, and paramedics arrived at 9:42 a.m., finding Renee unresponsive, with Becca holding her, sobbing.

Alongside paramedics, a SWAT team responded to the scene, instructing bystanders to stay back as Becca cried out in shock, “My wife!” according to a neighbor.

Blood was coming from Renee’s left ear, and her pupils were dilated as emergency workers attempted to save her.

Becca stepped out of the car and went to a neighbor’s house, sitting on the porch, covered in blood and in shock.

She remained there for a while before asking, “There’s a dog in the back. Can someone get it for me, please?”

After being reunited with her dog, she sat quietly with it until she was taken to the hospital.

At the scene, officers took about 25 minutes to extricate Renee from the vehicle, as per police sources.

She had stopped breathing and had an irregular pulse.

Resuscitation attempts were made, but sadly were not successful.

An ambulance took Renee toward the hospital, but efforts were halted after 10 a.m., according to police records.

The agent involved in the shooting remained on site for around fifteen minutes before being taken to a federal building.

The Department of Homeland Security stated that Ross was hospitalized that day and had internal bleeding, but declined additional comments on the situation.

Ross faces no charges, and Vice President JD Vance has claimed he would have ‘absolute immunity’ from prosecution, although critics question whether the use of deadly force was warranted.

An investigation into the shooting is still in progress.

“We stopped to support our neighbors,” Becca said in a statement on January 9. “We had whistles. They had guns.”

“I am now left to raise our son and to continue teaching him, as Renee believed, that there are people building a better world for him.”
