The news of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck getting a divorce is still fresh, yet there are already whispers of new romantic developments.
The announcement that Jennifer Lopez had filed for divorce from Ben Affleck earlier this month probably didn’t shock many.
This wasn’t because people anticipated the failure of their marriage, but because there had been months of rumors about tension between the two stars.
The couple was rarely seen together, and anonymous sources had confirmed that everything wasn’t perfect in the ‘Bennifer’ home.
Lopez and Affleck had eloped in Las Vegas in July 2022, rekindling their romance after initially getting engaged and then splitting up in 2004.
Although Lopez’s divorce filing is recent, the documents indicate the couple had been separated since April 2024.
Lopez cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for the divorce in her filing.
The documents also reportedly do not specify if there is a prenuptial agreement between the couple.
Neither celebrity has addressed their divorce directly. However, a representative for Affleck has had to quash rumors of a romantic involvement with Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy, the 36-year-old daughter of politician Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Affleck’s representative Jen Allen responded to the weekend rumors by stating, “the rumors are not true.”
These rumors began from sources who told People that the pair have been ‘spending time together’ since early spring.
This is likely just the beginning of rumors as Affleck and Lopez’s personal lives will be under intense scrutiny in the coming months.
Sources close to Lopez reveal that she is ready to move forward, although she is ‘disappointed’ her fourth marriage has ended.
Previously, she was married to Ojani Noa, Cris Judd, and Marc Anthony.
In an unusual twist, a divorce lawyer has commented on Lopez’s method of filing for divorce.
Evan Schein from the New York-based family law firm Berkman Bottger Newman & Schein told UNILAD: “It’s absolutely unusual for a celebrity to file for divorce without a lawyer.
“This is almost unheard of especially when finances are not an issue. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.”
