Ben Affleck shares reaction after 13-year-old son requests money for sports betting

Ben Affleck revealed his humorous retort when his son requested money for sports betting.

Despite being a big name in Hollywood, Affleck faces the same parenting challenges as many others.

He shares three children with his former wife, Jennifer Garner: Violet Anne, who is 19, Seraphina Rose at 16, and Samuel, who is 13. Recently, it was Samuel who stirred things up with his well-known dad.

In a recent interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the Good Will Hunting actor discussed how his father worked as an illegal bookie during his youth, which turned out to be quite profitable.

Affleck mentioned that people in Boston often supported the home teams, such as the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, even though they were infamously underwhelming during his formative years.

“I remember our first washing machine, our first VCR, in fact, dad coming home like, ‘You can thank Steve Grogan for this,'” he recounted, noting that he was ‘grateful that the Patriots were terrible; just thank Steve Grogan’s knees for our VCR’.

Kimmel quipped about how today’s kids don’t realize the struggles of previous generations. This led The Rip star to share his response when his son requested $100 for sports betting.

He recounted: “In fact, my son asked me like a month ago, ‘Hey, um uh, can I get like 100 bucks to bet on sports?’ I was like ‘What!?’, he went, ‘my friends get like 100$ but if they lost it, that’s it.”

Affleck explained his sarcastic reply: “I went ‘Oh, that’s a real standard, what discipline.’ So you don’t come back twitching back saying ‘I know the Green Bay Packers are going to cover the over in the second half’.”

Kimmel then inquired if he suggested calling his grandfather, to which Affleck, laughing, replied: “I was like, ‘There’s a reason your grandfather is broke’.”

This isn’t the first occasion Affleck has given a grounded response to his son’s requests.

Last year, the Justice League actor was commended for how he handled his son’s request for a pair of trainers costing $6,000.

While attending a large sneaker convention in Los Angeles, the then-13-year-old showed interest in a pair of Dior Air Jordan 1s.

A fellow shopper joked that Affleck wouldn’t be thrilled about the price, which prompted him to respond with a witty comment.

He playfully told his son, ‘That’s a lot of lawns you gotta mow there,’ suggesting the boy would have to earn the expensive shoes by working for them.

Affleck then pointed out that his son’s interest was likely tied to the high price, sparking a friendly exchange between them.
