Billie Eilish’s close friend accidentally let slip a glimpse of a very personal tattoo that the singer had once promised would remain unseen by the public.
The famous singer of ‘Bad Guy’ has five known tattoos. She has hinted at having more hidden ones but, unlike some other celebrities, the 23-year-old intends to keep her face tattoo-free. “The only tattoos I wanna get are the ones that barely anyone can see,” she remarked in a 2017 interview with Vanity Fair.
Upon turning 18, Eilish celebrated by getting her first tattoo right after a huge success at the 2020 Grammys, where she won five awards: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, and Best Pop Vocal Album.
She made history by being the first female artist to win in the four main categories and only the second person ever to achieve this feat. Marking the occasion, she paid a visit to a tattoo studio. “I did get a tattoo, but you won’t ever see it,” she shared at the time.
Since then, Eilish has added more tattoos to her collection. In 2021, she revealed two new designs: fairies on her hand’s side inspired by her favorite childhood book, Fairyopolis. “They’re like my little guardian angel fairies,” she said.
Another piece was a ‘big boy’ dragon tattoo across her waist, which she eventually revealed on Instagram. However, it’s the original tattoo that she vowed to keep a secret that has intrigued fans for years.
Fans got a rare glimpse of this elusive tattoo when Annabel Zimmer, daughter of the famous composer Hans Zimmer, posted a picture that included Eilish.
The photo shows Eilish enjoying the sun, wearing sunglasses with her hair pulled back, revealing a hint of the tattoo below her bikini string.
Though clearer images are likely available online, Eilish’s fans have settled for this as the best possible view.
Rolling Stone had earlier described the tattoo as being in an ‘ornate, gothic font’. Through the image, you can discern the pointed letters of her name in black ink.
In October 2023, Eilish revealed her newest tattoo—an abstract design running down the center of her back.
