Billy Bob Thornton has responded to rumors about his departure from the Paramount+ series Landman, addressing the reports for the first time.
The 70-year-old actor has captivated audiences with his portrayal of Tommy Norris in the series, which was created by Taylor Sheridan, known for Yellowstone.
Speculation about Thornton’s exit began when his character Tommy was removed from his position as president of M-Tex by Cami (Demi Moore) at the conclusion of the second season.
Despite the challenges ahead for Tommy, Thornton has made it clear that he plans to remain with the show for the foreseeable future.
In an interview with USA Today, Thornton stated that rumors of his departure are unfounded.
He dismissed the reports as ‘AI generated c**p’, saying, “There’s an AI report that Demi and I are a couple now, and there’s one that I’m leaving the show. They have nothing to do with reality.”

Thornton has been a significant part of the show since it premiered in November 2024, often making headlines for its suspenseful plots and a notable full frontal nudity scene.
The show has aired two critically acclaimed seasons, with a third season ordered in December 2025.
While a premiere date for the new season hasn’t been announced, Thornton confirmed his commitment to continuing his role.
“It’s been great working with Sam Elliot. And I love doing the show,” he said about the actor who plays his on-screen father. “I’ll be here as long as it plays out. If it’s five years, great. If it’s six, I’m there.”
The upcoming season is anticipated to follow Tommy as he starts his own company, CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle, with T.L. (Elliott), Cooper (Jacob Lofland), Nathan (Colm Feore), Rebecca (Kayla Wallace), and Dale (James Jordan). Thornton will reprise his role alongside Ali Larter, who portrays Tommy’s pragmatic ex-wife, Angela.
“So excited to announce we are coming back for season 3!” Larter shared on Instagram. “Thank you to the fans that have made Landman such a massive success.”
“Honored to work on this show with such exceptional actors and crew. Heart is full.”
