A past interview between Anthony Anderson and a young Lindsay Lohan has resurfaced, causing concern among viewers and prompting Anderson to address the situation.
The backlash comes as a 2003 interview with then 17-year-old Lindsay Lohan began making rounds on social media. During this interview, Anderson was temporarily hosting The Sharon Osbourne Show, stepping in for Osbourne on December 16, 2003.
While discussing various aspects of Lohan’s career, many believe Anderson’s comments towards Lohan were inappropriate and unsettling.
Lohan mentioned living with her friend Raven-Symoné, to which Anderson made remarks suggesting potential male visitors to their residence.
At 33, Anderson asked, “what gentlemen will be at the new pad with you and Raven Symoné?”
Lohan responded, “No one. I don’t have a boyfriend.” Anderson then turned to the audience and said, “She’s single, but looking!”
Lohan clarified, “I’m illegal, for people that are old.”
Drinking from his tea, Anderson replied, “Some men like them young. We ain’t gonna mention no names, but I’m one of them.”
This comment, followed by laughter from both Anderson and the audience, was further compounded by a joke he made about Lohan’s role in Freaky Friday just before a commercial break.
Anderson, moving closer to Lohan, remarked to viewers, “right now, we’re about to get our freak on,” prompting Lohan to cover her mouth with her hands.
In light of the backlash, a representative for Anderson issued a statement to Entertainment Weekly, saying: “This interview was clearly intended as comedy. He regrets if the humor was in poor taste and maintains the utmost respect for Lindsay.
“Any implication to the contrary is both inaccurate and potentially defamatory.”
The comments have sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many expressing their dismay at Anderson’s remarks.
One person said: “This is shocking. Has anyone ever seen footage of him actually being funny btw?”
Another commented: “‘I’m illegal’ (Lindsay 17 years old). ‘Some men like em young. I’m one of them’ – Anthony a grown a** nasty old man.”
A third person added: “She was so uncomfortable. So unfair to her. So gross of him idc if you’re a comedian you don’t joke about being attracted to younger ppl that’s weird.”
